This photograph demonstrates the importance of photographic memories. As I write this I am less than 300 miles away from Palmyra, knowing that this place doesn't look the same anymore, knowing about the tragedy that has been happening to the people in Syria for the past 7 years. We have to keep memories like this - these treasures - for the next generations. At least in form of a photograph.
When looking at old photographs like this one there are so many questions swirling through my mind: Did the people know each other before the trip? Family or company trip? Was the photographer part of this group or did he/she await all kind of tours at the beach? The 1950's was a time when mass-tourism slowly became widely available but was still expansive. Maybe that's why it was more important to dress up than having a casual day at the beach?
Congratulations. Whoever took this picture in 1946 must have been very creative. Most pictures from that time revolved around other things than having fun. Giving the fact that photography back than was done with bulk equipment, the process of printing cost time and money makes a fun shot like this even more special.

When we flip through old photo albums memories come back. When we hold a stack of old photographs we weigh history in our hands. And can you smell that distinctive, musty scent of those old photos? Unfortunately this last element gets lost in digital photography however technology can help us preserve and restore history and bring memories back to live. Whether they're black and white, colorized, scanned or otherwise digitalized... Show your old, vintage digitalized photographs of people, places, travels or moments. Does your photo has a story? Please tell and let us travel back in time! Photographs should be taken before 1990. Historical Reenactment, present day photo-shootings with costumes, Steampunk and such should be considered not on brief.
