Great contest!

This is a very nice, traditional photograph of a plate of sliced watermelon. What sets your picture apart of the rest of the photos is the pop of color provided by the plate. Your choice of cobalt blue was perfect and really enhances the picture. The arrangement of the slices on the platter is perfect, showing just the right amount of texture, meat, rind and seeds to provide visual interest. You turned what could have been a run of the mill picture into an award worthy photograph. Congratulations!

I love the complimentary colors in this photograph and commend you for your patience in getting the bird posed just right. The pink of the watermelon against the turquoise feathers on the bird is beautiful. This is a very fine photograph that fits the brief perfectly. Thank you for submitting it.

This is a really beautiful picture with award winning potential. I love the black background and the lighting. Unfortunately, I found my eyes shifting between the two clusters of melons as if it were two separate photos. I felt there was too much competition between the left and right sides of the photo. Cropping the picture and focusing on only the umbrellaed display would enhance the overall effect. For that reason, it did not make my Top 10 list, but it is a beautiful shot and worthy of commendation. Thank you for your entry.

This isn't your grandmother's watermelon. I commend you for picking one of the newer yellow watermelons to photograph instead of the typical pinkish-red varieties. I only wish it had been set on a bright plate or colored background. Thanks for your creative entry and for being brave enough to try something .new.

I love the creativity shown here. Some of the watermelons look like true works of art. I wish you had show cased just 1-3 of the watermelons and cut out some of the background clutter. I found the cheese blocks distracting, so it did not make my top ten list. Thank you for your entry.

Mellow Yellow is a cute title and certainly fits this watermelon. It isn't your grandma's watermelon, and I applaud you for picking one of the newer yellow watermelons to photograph instead of the typical pinkish-red varieties. Thanks for your creative entry and for being brave enough to try something different.

This is a beautiful photograph in a beautiful setting. The watermelons look very enticing sitting in the hay strewn bed of the truck. I love the unique shade of blue on the truck. In spite of the dim light and cloudy conditions, your photo seems to be perfectly exposed, so well done. Thank you for the background information. Though I like your title, Watermelon Race, I might have been tempted to remove the road sign. Other than that, it is a wonderful shot and in my opinion, worthy of its second place ranking. Congratulations.

This is a beautiful photograph. The lighting and placement of objects in the frame is exquisite. The pewter plate and the knife add even more visual interest. I can imagine the knife quartering the apple. and maybe slicing a block of cheese to eat along with the watermelon. Thank you for entering your photo and allowing us to use it for the contest banner.

This is a beautiful photograph. I like the open door with hints of what lies within. You have taken full advantage of the lighting. Such a technically superb photograph;, I can find nothing to criticize. But there is so much more here than meets the eye. Your picture tells a full story, and that is why I picked it as my favorite photograph. It seems to capture a lifetime of love as well one special moment. in time between the two subjects. Note the attention to detail in the rose; it is a true labor of love. Notice also, how the portion of watermelon being offered to the man is much larger than the remaining share. There is much tenderness in the facial expressions, you can almost feel the love. Well done and congratulations on your 1st place ranking!

This contest is for your photos of watermelons, one of summer's favourite sweet and juicy fruits. The watermelons can be shown either whole, sliced or being grown on the vine. The watermelon can be shown with other fruit, but the watermelon must be the main focus of your image. I look forward to seeing your favourite watermelon pictures.
