Waves

August 2022

Many of the images entered in this contest display the raw power of stormy waves.; it is refreshing to see the complete opposite with this shot. The image paints a tranquil moment through smooth lines and mellow tones. The focus on one tiny ripple reminds us of the smaller end of life's patterns. Well done on a very artistic shot.

This image is unique amongst other entries as it is one of few that display retreating rather than approaching waves. The silky effect created by a slow shutter speed counteracts the usual thoughts of power and force when thinking of stormy waves which helps the image stand out.

You have achieved an elegantly balanced piece, with good use of light and colour. The hazy silhouetted headland against the soft glow of the sky creates a great focal point, paired with burst of colour and texture in the wave. Congratulations on a stunning shot!

The simplicity of the colour palette achieved in this image makes it stand out and the complex textures paired with this help draw the eye to the image. Harsh lines of the pool paired with soft wave edges create a great balance of movement within the image. Congratulations on a lovely shot!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Waves of the watery kind in this contest. Whether you're shooting from a nice dry beach, or taking your waterproofed camera into the surf, we're exploring the many ways in which water swells and breaks. That could be far out at sea or more commonly when it reaches land. People and craft are welcome in the pictures, so we may see a surfer or a jetski or two.
