This is a wonderfully timed and well-framed shot. Shooting this as a flock of pigeons flies past adds depth to the image. The focus lies with the couple, and everything else falls into soft focus, but it’s all still recognisable. The perfect break in the birds around the couples faces allows us to connect with them.

Window light is so important in wedding photography, as it’s often the easiest light source to use and provides a wonderfully diffuse quality. The bride is highlighted from behind by the window here, and light fall off over the arm is dramatic but graceful and aids the darkening of the edges of the frame, especially around the curtain on the right.

When everybody is in a packed venue, it can be hard to isolate the couple and still show true expression both from them, and the audience. But by shooting the first dance, the photographer has managed to capture the essence of the evening and leave enough empty space in the frame to include the guests.

The styling, posing and lighting igives this photo a vintage feel.

This photo is full of visual metaphors. The couple stand at the base of the tree trunk, as if they’re laying the foundations for the rest of their lives together. The warm, autumnal colours also echo a new beginning as the end of their singular lives now join to create a new journey together.

Dramatic contrast between higlights and shadows, as well as good weighting between the left and right of the frame make this a striking wedding portrait.

The artificial fog provided by smoke bombs creates an ethereal and natural feel in the scottish woodlands, even the speedlight use emulates natural daylight for a gorgeous shot. This photo looks effortless but a lot of care and attention has been paid to bring all aspects of this photo together.

This combines multiple creative techniques with superb technical knowledge to create a stunning wedding portrait of the happy couple. A speedlight behind the couple creates shafts of light in recently descended fog, and a make-up mirror reflects festive lights in the bottom of the frame. Fairy lights dangled in front of the lens also add interesting bokeh to the top of the frame.
