I just think this is such a beautiful combination of exemplifying what this competition brief was about, with such wonderful form and interesting subject. The flow of the bird's shape coupled with the textures of its feathers is stunning. And then the whole thing is so wonderfully abstract too. A real feast for the eyes.
I really congratulate you here on being able to make a fork so ominous! The really hard focused light on the tines is great and really shows off all that crazy texture and kind of confuses you as to what it is. Then the handle/neck so sublty lurking in the backgorund you almost don't see it. I love that it's a marco shot too, seeing it so close makes it more unusual, plus that crazy small depth of field making the handle so soft adds to that eerie feel.

Something very serene and dreamlike about this image. The compositional choice of cutting the image in two with the reflection really takes it into the realm of the abstract. And the real side angle of the manta makes it's form slightly abstract also. I love the strong contrast picking out all the little bubbles adding a lovely texture to the shot.
I just love that my brain doesn't know what to do with this image. Objectively I know it's light on water, but the more I look it seems to change from having depth to being incredibly flat and it like I can almost see the ripples moving. Great choice using black and white to bring out all the textures and layers too.

The viewer will be left questioning what they’re seeing. Perhaps the subject has been captured outside of its usual context, following some kind of radical transformation, or in an abstract or distorted way that is playful and cunning.
It's great how this image plays with your perception of perspective. You're not quite sure if you're looking up or down or even if it's a flat thing or if it has a depth. The composition is just really satisfying too, with a kind of nod to the yin yang perhaps. Beatiful sweeping lines of the shadows complimented by the concentric rings of the concrete.

It really took me a minute to work this one out, and that's what this breif was all about! And then once understood I think it's oddly satisfying seeing that movement of the sun and shadows follwed behind by the melting of the ice. The whole scene also looks like a coastline from quite high above playing with your senses.
There we're very few images that I really had absolutely no idea what I was looking at at all, and this was the best of that elite group. I like that it's black and white but I couldn't tell you if it's the subject or shot in B&W! all the differnent patterns on the... eggs? Chrysalis'?? is really beautiful complmenting and making layers with the fantastic shapes of the things themselves.

I wanted to write you a review with the specific intent on congratulating you on using an interesting angle for this shot. That simple 45 degree(ish) really makes it. A simple coastline becomes something else. Your brain has to work to make sense of it and I think this is really one of the fundamentals of what this breif was all about.
I really love how graphic this shot is. The angle really flattening the subject and confusing you a bit about what it is. The colours are really great too (lights primary colours), they really jump out from each other. Finally there's these lovely textures of the dew on the swing and the material the floors made of.
