Wheels

May 2023

Everything about this image works so very well. The timing is perfect to catch the bike as it turns into a corner, The use of a long focal length lens to bring all the attention to the main subject. The tight crop and composition with the use of black and white really makes the bike and rider stand out against the grey background and I love how we get to see the spray of mud from the back wheel. This is like been there in the front row watching. A great capture that works well as a sports photograph and perfect subject matter for this competition. Well done.

This picture has such a nostalgic feel. It takes me back to my own childhood and memories. The classic tight composition works well allowing us to be really part of the scene. The exposure is very well controlled as it would have been so easy to make the snow look muddy. The detail in the snow is excellent and we get to see the snow falling onto the scene to add that extra drama. The colors of the fairground rides stand out so well against the lighter backdrop. It has a painterly feel and would make a classic postcard. It's a beautiful photograph that I would happily have framed on my wall. Well done.

This really stood out from all the other photographs that depicted a Ferris wheel..The use of color especially the difference between the warm golden out of focus tones that frame the cool well lit wheel. This is such a well constructed photograph. The photographer has worked hard to make this picture. It is not a snap but a very well thought out photograph. The exposure is perfect as is the composition and the frames within frames works so well. The highlights really jump out and the shadows are well controlled. This is a great photograph that would look well on a gallery wall framed. Great capture. Well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** What have the Sumerians ever done for us? Well they invented the wheel, for one, although it’s a matter of some debate exactly where and when that happened. A few thousand years down the line, you won’t have trouble finding a wheel of some kind or another wherever you look. There are no restrictions on the types of wheels you can enter into this contest, and you can even go looking for toothed wheels in the form of cogs.
