This was a very difficult contest to judge. So many excellent images of many different species. Eventually managed to whittle it down to my 10 favourites. There are many commended images as was very hard to differentiate from so many high standard images. I decided to make this beautiful image of a lovely very white polar bear, probably a young female bear the winner, but it is only my opinion. I aay young bear because the fur looks more yellow in an older animal. The front and back legs in the air give a real impression of movement and the fact that the bear isn't looking at the photographer enhances this. Excellent image with very good sharpness on the moving animal.

I want to see wild animals in the wild (not in zoos), with the photographs showing the environment the animal is in rather than closeups. I regard animals in African Safari Parks (for example Kruger Park) as being wild animals. The park is fenced but the animals look after themselves. Birds in the wild shown in their environment are also acceptable, for example Red Kite Feeding in Wales where, although the food is supplied, the birds are wild and come if they wish. If animals/birds have adapted their lifestyle to use feeders or feed in urban areas that is also fine, so long as the animals/birds are wild and come of their own free will. Hopefully this explains the sort of images I am looking for.
