The purpose of this competition was to look for contrast in times where the light is challenging, the black and white elements in this image have achieved exactly that and enhanced the image to pop import shapes. From the lines created by the mountain ridge to the light beams and snow flying off the top, all the elements have come together for a great composition that leads the viewer towards the main subject of the detailed half moon. Fantastic capture with the alignment, contrast and use of focal length. Congratulations on an outstanding image.

Winter creates magical environments yet we are often faced with challenging light situations during this wonderful season. From overcast skies to harsh direct light reflecting off the snow, finding contrast and capturing images in black and white are a great way to work with these difficult light situations. In such a chaotic environment the photographer has managed to completely draw the attention a main subject. The contrast has accentuated the fleeting light that has highlighted the branches of the focus point and is a great use of black and white. I could imagine this was a fleeting moment and well done on achieving a great image.

Beautiful, simple and artistic. Another great example in finding an image in a challenging light situation. By looking for subjects and negative space this photographer has succeeded in capturing a great image without an awe inspiring winter surrounding. In my opinion, some detail in the white negative space would enhance the image and squash any thoughts on this being a photo-shopped digital art piece. Otherwise well done.

Shapes lines and contrast. A great winter black and white image. This is already a very simple composition, but perhaps shooting at a longer focal length or cropping the image to remove the top middle junction would simplify and strengthen this even further. Great shot and eye for contrast. well done

Great scene and I can envision being right there. It is a great spot for contrast, and to enhance the black and white shapes my thoughts would be that the photographer could have waited for the subject to walk another 10 meters into the light as he is currently lost in the shade and background. Good use of foreground to tell the story.

Fantastic moment captured in black and white. Perfect use of contrast and looking for shapes. The crooked tyre tracks are the perfect addition to add interest leading up to the subjects. Whether or not the cyclists have done this on purpose for the shot or the conditions have forced them all over the path the result is great and a fun shot to view. Well done.
