Honestly this picture was the first one that made me go wow! There are just so many things going on, but everything is put together in a way that is not overwhelming. There is perspective, details, leading lines etc. It's a great example of urban photography at its best. In addition, I did like very much the idea of turning it into monochrome. That way the viewer's eye just wanders through it trying to find as many little details as possible without losing focus because of the coloring.
Manipulation and post work made in an exceptionally simple but interesting way. it reminds me of a Rubik cube disintegrating in a post modern way. The intersecting white lines create that feeling of speed, like something is just going to disappear within seconds and the viewer is lucky enough to see its final moments. My only small objection is the slight grainy background, but still I believe that it is a superb composition!
I loved that one...I truly did! It was one of the first ones I went through and from that very moment I knew that it goes hands down for an award. Its simplicity, the scarce selection of colors blend with each other smoothly creating an easy to follow pattern which , for me at least, creates a soothing feeling. The harsh cement wall gives its place to the warm red window glass. Dark colored pictures can be sometimes threatening to the eye..but not this one. It is just a so beautiful frame...
It's maybe because I use the same idea when I'm editing my captures, but this picture caught my attention because of the high contrast and the low light. Here's an example of a mundane everyday subject turned into a composition which one can be proud of. The almost empty background contradicts the dart circles while the darts themselves do give an extra edge. Concentric circles within squares, that is geometry!

This one is a perfect example , in my opinion, of a capture that does have all the elements one would ask from a exceptional photo. Composition, frame, colors, details, depth, totally within the competitions theme and even reflections. It's a great example of geometric abstraction which while keeping the fundamental rules into its essence the final product reflects a contemporary freshness. It's just captivating..each time I look at this one I find new interesting elements. Well done!
The creator of this one states that the biggest challenge was "to keep the final product close to the original". I truly believe that this was a tough. I experimented myself sometimes with similar themes but I never came close to such a beautiful result. The simplicity of the colors in contrast to the black background releases a spark of energy. Again it's a perfect example of a macro photo which was elevated even more by a great post capture work! Awesome!
Aahhh...Red wavy abstraction...This picture is on my top ones because of many reasons. At first, the unfolding waves which are prominent and nicely complimented by the shadows. The frame is full and in every corner of the picture the eye has something to look at. The motion is natural and the red color enhances the movement even more.
P.S. This one can work also as an optical illusion. Just try to move your head towards and backwards your screen, the waves move!
This one is another example of a great monochromatic composition. The coming in sea waves is the part which adds to the theme. While I was very tempted to include it in my top 10, my only objection was that it is not centered. I'm not a big fun of centered frames but I believe that the slight off frame to the right alienates somewhat the viewer. Instead of having a capture that grabs the attention with its intensity now there is this feeling of something not being totally ok. Still I must admit that I'd love to have that captured myself!

Backlit sunset pictures are everywhere, literally all over the place. This one though with its symmetrical outline which is interrupted by the intertwined interior lines is captivating. It's not the theme that make this picture worthy of an award but the frame. It provides, if I may, a severe looseness while the addition of the person's figure definitely adds an interesting touch to the final result.

Geometric abstraction themes have held a special interest for creators throughout the years. From painting (Picasso, Mondrian, Malevich) to architecture and from micro-particles to chemistry symbolism their universal simplicity penetrates almost every civilization and culture. Such rationally abstract patterns can be found literally all around you. Capture and showcase them! Keep in mind that often simple manipulations can produce amazing results!
