This one also makes me laugh out loud. I think it's the totally ordinary location and the perfect pouty expression on this puppies face that makes it a winner. I like the use of selected focus and I like the choice of the banal kitchen location. The lighting is a bit harsh for me and I would have added a fill light for the front. Whatever object is on the floor to the left of the puppy I would remove. I might also remove all the stuff underneath him and the little blue something sticking out from his right side. I am nitpicking though. This is "Grumpy" the puppy : )
This image is humorous for sure. I would love to see the bridle removed and the hair groomed better. I would also love to get the teeth cleaned up and the piece of green whatever removed from the tooth on the right. I'm also not sure I like the vignette that looks like it was added in post. This is a great image and might look better as is with some cosmetic clean ups. The composition is good and the expression seals the deal.
I love everything about this shot except the word "grim". I would definitely remove this if you want us to take this as a more humorous shot. I love the clarity in the camel's eyes and I love his chin positioned just so. I really like the metal fencing he's popping over I just don't get the writing. Use photoshop or another editing program to clean up the eye areas and some stray marks on the camel's fur and this is a really great shot.
This first place image at first glance did not catch my eye. When I went through all the images more closely this one image stood out to me. If you cleaned up his/her teeth this could be a movie poster!! It's humorous, well framed, sharp with a nice contrasting out-of-focus background. The only thing I would like to see is a slightly more pulled back version. With the animals body posture you might be able to enhance an already superb shot.
Ha ha. This image – of one of our closest genetically – is so great. He's making the face of a five year old child, or an orangutan of course. These animals are known for their amazingly goofy faces and taunting expressions. I wish you could have gotten lower and shot more straight on in order to obscure some of his natural but muddy looking habitat. I'm sure you must have been peering over a fence or other enclosure. Good job capturing this sweet face.
I love this one. It just makes me smile. The way his/her wings are up it looks like he/she's conducting an orchestra. I love the webbed feet splayed out against the sky. The only thing I might want to fix is the little bit of loose feather on the top right side of the beak. This image could also use some contrast and saturation tweaks to make it really pop. This image captures the humour of animals perfectly.
I loved this image from the first time I saw it. The expression on this very special farm animal (what type of calf is this and where) is very sweet. The composition is good with the dip in the fence aligning perfectly with his/her head peeping over the top. The animal is well groomed (except for his hind quarters which I would fix in photoshop. I like that you left the tall reeds in the foreground to give the image another layer. This image is all about layers with a cute guy in the middle.
Humour is the catch phrase here for sure. I am wondering if you put this in in post or if your cat actually has this face naturally. I like the way you used shallow depth of field and focused on her eyes, nose and mouth. This image really draws me into the cute smile every time. Great job! To continue shooting this adorable kitten try the same lens and aperture and shoot him/her back lit and against different colours and textures. Try lying him/her down on a great patterned fabric and get this smile.
There were many images submitted of adorable dogs with their heads sticking out of fences. This one stood out from its competitors because of the well painted fence and the great composition with the larger fence. Bravo! This image definitely makes me smile and I want to take my dog there too. The only thing I think could help this image a bit is if you could flash fill the front so that we could see the detail in the right side of the dog's face.
Meet the expert judge
This eye catching image is dynamic with the use of motion, those great big water droplets, the perfect focus and lighting on the dogs' eye. The expression is fresh and full of wonder. The humour comes from the perfect combination of all these elements to create an engaging photograph. I even don't mind the large amount of negative space on the left. The glow on the water is nice. I sort of wish I could see a little more sun on green and less total blocked up shade, but that doesn't take away from this fun shot.

I wanted to talk about this photo for a number of reasons. First of all this type of image is right up my alley. I want to give you some pointers to help you get this shot so that it sparkles. I love the funny vibe and Iove to put clothes on animals. Try backing the background away from the dog by at least a foot or more. Throw the background out-of-focus by shooting at a wider aperture and that will take care of any slight wrinkles in your background. It looks like you're using a sheet here. A sheet works great if you soften it instead of ironing. I would try to get your subject to look directly into the camera instead of off the side. I would pull the shirt back and use safety pins to "fit" the shirt to your dog. I love where you're headed with this. Try a jacket on top too : )
I love this image. I love the composition, I love the slight vignetting, I love the eyes looking out. The only thing that held this beautiful image back was that it lacked the humor that I was looking at for this particular contest. This is an A+ job of a great shot of a cow though. I love the low angle and the back light is done to perfection. With this type of shot as with others that I liked but had trouble getting the humour quotient, I would have perhaps used a prop or in this case maybe a higher lens that really concentrates on the eyes and get a great funny expression like that. You can also try feeding the cow a bit of grain and then shoot them while they lick their lips.
Well this is just the cutest little guy ever! I love him. He missed my vote because I was looking for the humour in the shot. I'm not sure what you might have done with this wild looking baby bunny to make it funny. You were lucky to get this close to a wild baby bunny. If it's your own rabbit maybe you could play with different positions and setting and perhaps consider some props if you were aiming for humour. It's an A+ on the cuteness scale though.
I had to write about this cute kitty shot gone awry. This shot is very busy visually. I wish that I could quickly separate the cat from his/her environment. It's hard to tell what's going on. This is also another shot that I had a hard time finding the humour in. Is it a cute shot of your beloved feline? Of course it is! You need to add some humour. Maybe replacing the regular cat collar with a christmas themed home made collar, or what about adding a cat sized santa hat..? You can get away with a busy shot if you have a strong central thing to look at. In this case the cat's eyes are the obvious draw, but then the eye wanders. You could also remove the blue glow on the middle-left of the image. It's a distracting colour and brightness and it takes away from the eyes.
I chose this image to illustrate that you must have a file that is in focus and is large enough and sharp enough. I'm not sure what combination you encountered here. I love this shot because of the human like qualities of the cat and the way he's sitting on the sofa chilling. It would have been great to give him a little prop and get him to relax his head down and back a bit. You have a great model to work with – just check out your camera settings and check the sharpness of your images as you shoot.
This image initially struck me. I'm not sure but I think it was the group of attractive people in the background all perfectly doing they're thing. The beach setting isn't too bad either. When I enlarged the image and saw what was really going on I felt sorry for both the begging beach monkeys and rather embarrassed for humanity that more than half the people are really interacting with technology more than the monkeys at hand. Once I really got it I had a hard time seeing this as a humorous photo. I like the image, don't get me wrong. And I'm the first to admit I'd be one of the first in line with their technology. What I love best about this image besides the color and all the people is the point of view. You did a wonderful job of shooting the monkey's point of view.
