Zebras were a very popular subject choice for this contest for obvious reasons. This image really stood out from the crowd. It reminded me of the work of Tim Flach. The photographer has made a brave and very effective crop leaving the abstract curve of the Zebra's back and plenty of breathing space. It would make a fantastic advertising image and I'd be very happy to have it hanging on my wall as well. One minor point - there are a few strands of the mane in the corner of the frame which I thought could be cloned out to make an even more graphic image.
A simple, beautifully composed shot of a bird's eye. When I saw the thumbnail, I wasn't sure what it was - it could easily have been a detail from a wing - so it really fulfilled the brief in terms of an abstract image. I love where the photographer has chosen to place the eye and the technique is faultless. One small gripe: I loathe watermarks and feel they should be banned from competition as the judging is supposed to be anonymous. You were not the only culprit but at least yours is small and relatively unobtrusive.

Take a closer look at the animal kingdom from a different perspective. Patterns, shapes, colours, movement can all be used to create a striking image. Black and white, close up, motion blur or any other imaginative view of animals, whether they are wild or domesticated - the choice is yours, provided it is abstract and of animals, whether captured in the wild or a domestic setting.
I thought this was one of the most imaginative and creative images entered in the contest. A bold, dramatic composition that must have commercial potential. Unfortunately, when viewed large, there is some fringing on the left of the white line (perhaps the result of over sharpening?) and the black background is slightly muddy in places, hence why it didn't quite make the top 10, but a well deserved award.
