This capture of the lights really conveys a sense of movement, as the lights sweep and swoop across the sky making their magical shapes. There is just enough light for the landscape to be visible without dominating the scene, with the aurora and the landscape having equal weight in this stunning image. Well done on your top ten placing.
A dramatic image, capturing the best of a mountainous landscape and the magical aurora in one shot. The lights are vivid but still look natural, and the little touches of reflections in the water add to the shot. The long shutter speed has enabled the land to be well lit, but other camera settings such as ISO have been selected appropriately to prevent digital noise, which can frequently be a problem with long exposure night shots. Congratulations on your second place finish.
A gorgeous combination of aurora and landscape, creating a stunning image. The long shutter speed has allowed the lights to be captured in all their glory, and the landscape to be nicely illuminated. By capturing the aurora over water, the reflections add another dimension to the scene. Congratulations on your winning image.

I would love to see your photos of landscapes featuring the aurora borealis or aurora australis, also known as the northern lights and southern lights. The aurora should be part of a landscape composition, rather than only showing the sky. Please try to keep your images looking as natural as possible; I am not especially looking for the most stunning aurora display, but more the overall capture of the scene. I am looking forward to seeing your entries.
By including the figure in the scene helps enable the viewer to feel part of the scene, as they can imagine themselves also standing admiring such a wonderful spectacle. The arc of the aurora nicely frames the person, and the line of footprints through the deep snow help lead the eye into the scene. Beautiful image, well done on your top ten placing.
