A grand view of a grand city. Exceptional control of the tones making for a striking and beautiful use of black and white and the way the eyes is lead around the picture by the curve of the river is very effective.

I couldn't complete my top ten without including Graz. This is a familiar viewpoint that I have stood at myself. I like the atmospheric feel of the image and the subtle tones in the distance. The misty horizon completes the photo beautifully.

My winner, many congratulations. The combination of the long exposure on the water and the buildings as a backdrop is very effective. The muted tones work very well. Plus this just feels such an Austrian scene. I have visited nearby Linz but never Steyr - has inspired me to take a look next time I'm in these parts!

I love this, a refreshingly different take on Salzburg, cleverly done and the diagonals of the planks add a lot to the image too. The texture and reflections on the wet surface give the photo a rich feel, very well done.

I love the choice of framing this epic view by the surrounding rock, the image has immense depth to it and shows the scale of the mountains against the distant settlement very well. The eye is lead down through the middle of the shot very effectively.

There are some lovely images in my contest of the stunning Hallstatt in Upper Austria and I chose this one as I feel the black-and-white treatment gives it a timeless feel. The eye is lead nicely around the curve and the small boat far left is a perfect final touch.

An incredible shot, it has so much to it. The composition, the texture and the sheer drama, excellent. It's a slightly different take on the more usual Austrian Alpine scenes and gives an interesting view on the Austrian outdoors and wildlife.

A stunning image. The elegant curves of the chutes against the dark backdrop is superb, it has a lovely sky and overall it captures an image of Austrian mountains away from the more usual snow-capped peaks. The lakeside town far below shows the immense scale at work here.

Just a great image. The soft cloudy background contrasts so well with the hard steel, a masterful use of shape and tone. Not an image you may usually associate with Austria but there is a multitude of exciting architects at work and this shows it off very well.
