The colourful tatty tangle of threads, snagged on the barbed wire, really sets this image off. Although the sharpest focus is on the tangled threads, the barbed wire is suffuciently clear to be an obvious feature, but captured in a more creative way that adds interest to an otherwise mundane subject. Lighting is great, capturing the textures nicely. Congratulations on your winning image.

Althought the subject is mundane and relatively close up, there is still plenty within the frame for the eye to explore. The textures of the smoothed wooden posts contrast with the sharp barbs on the wire. Conversion to black and white suits the subject and simplifies the composition. Well done on your top ten placing.

The shallow depth of field creatured by the use of a wide apetture contributes to a creative and visually appealing shot. The black and white conversion has been done really well, with a great range of tones and contrasts. Composition of the close-up scene works well, aided by the selective focus, making a lovely detailled study of this little section of barbed wire. Congratulations on your second place finish.

This is an image I appreciate more the more I look. Careful focusing and selection of an appropriate aperture has helped create a great shot. The partially constructed/demolished building in the background is sufficiently clear to give context, but sufficiently out of focus so as not to dominate, and to allow the razor wire to stand out at the front of the composition. Congratulations on your third place finish.

There were quite a number of images in this contest of birds perched on barbed wire, but this one was my favourite. Sat potentially uncomfortably right on top of a bard, the bird is perfectly positioned on the wire from a photographic point of view, exactly midway between the other bards and becoming equal in terms of prominence for this contest theme. Great sharpness on the bird and wire, completely isolated from the background through the use of a very long lens. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

This contest is for your photos of barbed wire and razor wire. The wire can be shown in any setting, such as forming part of a fence or to deter intruders onto property etc. Images can also show the wire photographed more creatively. The barbed or razor wire must be an obvious feature of your photo. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
