Thank you Angela for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 8th place! A pleasing image, I like this composition where you have cut the sky away and left only strips of water and sand. The combination of blue and brown is appealing. In winter this beach has become the kingdom of seagulls and people who take dogs for a walk: the two subjects in the foreground, going in the opposite direction, are eye catching.
Thank you Kim for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 10th place! This little boy is so cute, so wrapped up, but with a proud expression as if he felt he was the master of the beach. I think that on this same beach in the summer he runs in a swimsuit. Shooting from low angle allows him to dominate the scene without disturbing elements, but place and season are clearly recognizable.
Thank you Phil for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 5th place! Sea, sand, vegetation ... but above all the wind is the protagonist of this beach taken in the bad season. It seems to feel this wind that comes from the sea, creates the waves and bends the stems. A beautiful b&n, contrasted on the grass in the foreground and which gradually fades towards the background hidden by the fog.
Thank you Graeme for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 6th place! I like the way you captured the atmosphere of this place. A large beach near the town that in winter is used as a space for walking, even with dogs. I note that there have been recent sea storms that have transported trees and mud on the sand. I like the way you composed this image, using the different layers that create the perception of depth.
Thank you Vince for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 4th place! An alien vision, two strange structures emerge from a white desert, populated by rare people who get lost in the immensity of the landscape. An effective minimalism where the blue hue amplifies the feeling of cold. A beach, frequented in summer, but which in winter shows this candid and silent aspect.
Thank you for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 3th place! This image struck me from the first time I saw it: a very crowded beach! And this effect is well made by the use of the telephoto lens that compresses the planes and by the backlight which creates layers of different brightness in the background. A winter use of the beach: stroll well covered and walking the dogs.
Thank you Claudio for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your first place! A well framed photo with an effective perspective. A scene that fits the brief perfectly. The beach, crowded in summer, is now empty of people, with the only presence of structures and objects. The tunnel, which in summer offers shelter from the sun, now has the curtains folded to one side. The lifeguard's red boat is parked below, waiting to resume his service. In the distance, at the bottom of the perspective, you can see the sea, preceded by the sand dunes that need to defend the beach from the winter sea storms. A photo that shows the situation of a beach that, in winter, has a very different life than it has in summer.

Show me your photos of beaches in winter. When the hot season ends, the beaches become free of sunbathers, umbrellas and deckchairs. They can remain empty and quiet or they can become places to walk, run or breathe pure air. The photos can be in colour or black and white, but the sand must still be part of the composition.

Thank you Stefano for joining my “Beaches in Winter” contest and congratulations on your 7th place! I identified with this photo and not only because this beach is located a few dozen of km. from my home, in my region, Liguria. In summer, the beaches are crowded with swimmers, umbrellas, deck chairs, but also in winter they welcome many people, residents and tourists, who want to sunbathe or even swim (the brave ones!). Here, however, you took this photo when the sun had already set behind the hill with the historic city, people had gone away and only a photographer remained. This is the moment when the warm colors of the sky are reflected in the long wave that arrives on the beach. But who knows if the photographer had seen something else interesting to photograph. The beaches are good for souvenir photos in summer, for artistic photos in winter.
