Black and white

This is a fantastic candid portrait of a man and woman at a train station. The photographer has created an image that wants to tell a story and we as the viewers are eager to find out more. We know where they are, the season and what time of day it is but we don't know what they're relationship is or anything surrounding their meeting. It's this that makes us look twice to establish more. This is a perfect example of why a black and white treatment can really add something special to a scene. It works well with the contrast in light and shadow and the steam in the background also adds another element giving the image plenty of atmosphere.

As many of our users know (and have demonstrated), an image doesn't have to be colourful to make an impact. In fact, sometimes the draining of all colour can make a picture more dramatic and more evocative than could ever be achieved in a straightforward colour shot. In this contest, we'd like you to show us what you can do, through the medium of black and white!
