British landscapes

Dramatic, Cinematic and other worldly. A wonderful scene that takes our breath away. We look at the rugged coastline which offers something familiar but the sky suggests something bigger, out of our control. In keeping with Prof Stephen Hawking's who told us to look up. This image indeed does that. A worthy winner.

An interesting take on the landscape. Not a sweeping vista but a lovely view of a classic English garden? The photograph shows the love and commitment that has inspired someone to design and work on the up keep of this splendid space. I'm drawn to the familiarity of the scene that just makes me happy.

EPIC because it's not. The photographer has been brave enough to use the word as the view. We the audience of the image are denied this amazing vista because we are told in bold that it is an amazing vista but our view is blocked. Clever and witty. Epic.

The point of view makes this image stand out from the rest. We see the larger landscape that the rowers inhabit. The way paths move in and out and the lawned grounds on the bottom right. A photograph that invites the viewer into the space from a vantage point not often seen.

A Landscape? As my hero Lee Friedlander may point out a social Landscape. Iconic view of modern power in London. Good use of light and shadows. I'm drawn to the stillness of the scene even though what is inside the buildings is anything but quiet.

Sometimes photography is about luck. But the photographer has to have the ability to know when they are lucky. What a wonderful cloud and reflection in the water. An alien within the landscape that just begged to be photographed. Nicely seen.
