A very tough competition to judge and I really deliberated over the top ten images. A very well timed shot - so much detail can be lost when trying to grab that "perfect shot" but you've managed to show the wondrous detail of the pollen and the majestic beauty of the bumble. The colour balance and contrast between the subjects is very appealing. WELL DONE.

Bumblebees are endearing and familiar insects. Their animated behaviour and deep buzz as they fly from flower to flower makes them a delight to watch. And, how on earth do they fly... Sadly though, our bumblebees have been declining because of changes in agricultural practices that have largely removed flowers from the landscape, leaving the bumblebees with little to feed upon and most UK species have declined greatly in recent years with two becoming extinct in the UK since 1940. In the UK there are 24 species of bumblebee (25 if you count the reintroduced Short-haired bumblebee) but only eight are commonly found in most places. Bumblebees are found in a variety of habitats and most people should be able to attract them to their gardens if they have the right kinds of flowering plants. For this challenge I'd like to see your best bumblebee shots. A single bee, in a group, flying, stationary, feeding or sun bathing. Macro shots acceptable too. Please do not bother the bees.
