The bugs in this category should be members of the Lepidoptera order – butterflies, and day or night-flying moths. Most will have wings that are coloured, either for camouflage or distraction – the exception being those with clear wings. Caterpillars should also be entered into this category.
Highly magnified imagery, such as close-ups of faces and body parts, can be submitted to this category, but is more likely to excel in the 'Extreme Close-Ups’ category.
'Butterflies and Moths' is sponsored by Olympus, who are giving away £1500 worth of amazing camera gear to the category winner. There are more great prizes for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and all shortlisted photographers.
1st place will win an Olympus E-M5 Mark III camera (worth £1,099.99 GBP), and an Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f2.8 Macro lens (worth $449.99 GBP).
Other prizes for finishing 1st include: £250 (GBP) cash, a 1-year Photocrowd ‘Master’ subscription worth £90 (GBP), a 1-year Buglife membership worth £36 (GBP), the ON1 Professional Plugin Bundle 2021.5 ($149.99 USD), Luminar AI worth $99 (USD).
2nd & 3rd place win a Photocrowd ‘Challenger’ subscription worth £30 GBP
2nd place will win ON1 Photo RAW 2021.5 ($99.99 USD).
Shortlisted images* will be featured in an exclusive online gallery. All shortlisted photographers will receive a one year membership to Buglife (£36 each).
