This image effectively demonstrates how creatively the medium of light can be used. The subject is so simple - a curl of a thin strand of paper positioned with lighting to the side, but the resulting image is fascinating. Keeping the image in monochrome has maintained simplicity, allowing full focus to be on the shapes and patterns formed by the interaction of the paper and the light. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
This is a very creative abstract image of such a simple subject. It has been very well processed and I could spend an age exploring the shot to try to follow the curves of paper to try to see where one piece ends and another begins, and work out how the image has been created. Alternatively I could just enjoy looking at a beautiful abstract! Lighting is great, and the delicate softness creates a lovely feel to the image. The graduating colours across the frame works well too. Congratulations on your winning image.

Filling the frame with these delicate paper flames makes this image stand out. There is no obvious focal point, but for me that does not matter in a shot such as this, as wherever the eye first falls there are plenty of little details and textures to see, before the eye wanders elsewhere to explore further. Lighting is good, as it allows the textures and forms to be revealed, and the colours are bold but have avoided being over-saturated. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
Simple but extremely effective, this image comes to life through the use of the vivid greens throughout the shot. Lighting is spot-on, to help create a soft dreamy feel to this abstract, at the same time as allowing the shapes formed by the paper and the depth of the scene to be clear. Such a simple subject, but an image full of interest and beauty. Congratulations on your second place finish.
I am not sure how many times the paper was tossed in the air, regathered and tossed again, but I hope you had fun in the process! The frustration and satisfaction of a shot such as this is the unpredictability, as you can never know how it will turn out, and cannot be replicated. The resulting image you have created here however is a delight to view, with plenty to hold the attention and for the eye to explore. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
As with many things, sometimes the simplest of things can be so effective. I imagine quite a bit of patience was needed to capture the curled paper, and I would not be surprised if it developed a life of its own whilst you were hoping it stayed put! Lighting is super, as it reveals the shape of the curls, and I also like that the texture of the peper has been revealed too. The blue colouring across the frame works well too. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of paper which has been captured in a creative way. This can include paper art such as origami, or maybe images where you are emphasising patterns, shapes or colours formed by paper. It must be obvious that the subject is made from paper, and the paper must be the main focal point of the shot. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
A creative and rather beautiful abstract of some simple folds of coloured paper. The backlighting really makes for some bold contrast and makes the subject stand out. Use of a wide lens aperture means the top edges of the paper are in crisp focus, whilst the rest of the sheets falls quickly out of focus to become a gentle blur of colour. I imagine the set-up was not easy to achieve, trying to pose floppy sheets of paper, but the composition is lovely and creates a striking shot. Well done on your top ten placing.
The bold vibrant colours which fill the frame were an instant attraction to this image. Composition and framing looks to have been well considered. The lighing of the scene has been used to maximum effect to create soft shadows which emphasise the lines and shapes formed by the paper, but any deep shadow areas have been avoided. Congratulations on your third place finish.
This image stood out from when I first saw it, through a combinating of the composition and the nicely contrasting colours on the backdrop. It takes a while to establish what exactly we are looking at, but that is the beauty of abstract compositions. A simple everyday subject turned into a striking image. Depth of field has been well utilised, as the top edge of the notebook and curls of the pages are in clear focus, with the rest of the scene falling gently out of focus to create a soft backdrop. Well done on your top ten placing.
An interesting abstract of paper, created using a long exposure time to give a great sense of fluidity and movement. I like that we can see a network of sharp lines, which I take to be the edges of the paper, which adds interest and prevents the image being about only the colour. The colours however are great, with the contrast of the oranges and green making a bold image. Being picky, I may have been tempted to crop off the bottom white section, but that is a minor thing, and still a great image. Well done on your top ten placing.
