This image is all about half circles - the half circles on the two culverts and the half circle made by the rear end of the porcupine. This is just something you don't see everyday. Without seeing this maker's other wonderful porcupine-in-the culverts photo, or reading the title of this photo, one wonders what this mysterious circle of fluff is between the two culverts. The small culvert acts as a leading line bringing your eyes to the prize. Its all about being in the right place at the right time. Thank you for submitting this lovely whimsical photo.
The subtle red brownish tones of the inside of this culvert made me love this image. The slight curve of the water stream makes a lovely leading line to the pretty scenic area into which it flows. The black concentric circles inside the culvert add to its lovely textures. Thank you for entering this great image into my contest.
I keep coming back to this interesting, almost graphic-looking photo. Any one of these culverts is a photo unto itself and seeing three at a time is a treat.. The reflections of the different color bricks, the cement design around each of the culverts and the corrugations of the culverts themselves are just so fascinating. It takes a person with a great eye to see the beauty in this scene. Thanks so much for your submission.
Thanks everyone for your submissions! I certainly got an education about how to make a stunning culvert photo. I did not imagine there would be so many high quality pictures in this contest. This deserving first place image has so much impact! what wonderful black and white contrast! As the maker's title implies, the concentric circles of this corrugated culvert ARE hypnotic. The backlit man adds mystery. DaVinci's sketch, "The Vitruvian Man" immediately comes to mind. Did the photographer mean for it to represent da Vinci's concept of the ideal human body proportions? This is a worthy winner and an image to return to again and again. Thank you so much for entering and showing me that there is real art in culvert photography!

Wow, what a wonderful abstract photo! As the maker describes, this photo was taken on a misty but sunny day where the sun was hitting the ground at the end of the culvert in the perfect way to give this mysterious rainbow effect. It takes a person with an exceptionally good eye to see this as a photographic opportunity. A good eye means that you instinctively frame the shot with an interesting composition, get the lighting nice etc. I forgave the minor technical flaws (dust spots, noise) because this is such an outstanding piece of art. Thanks so much for thinking outside the box and entering this stunning image.
What a lovely bucolic scene of an old culvert surrounded by the trees, ferns and the white flowers which the maker describes as garlic. I love how the greenery., white flowers and the faint path curve around the stream to make a lovely leading line to the old culvert. This photo is technically excellent as well. Thanks for entering this beautiful photo in my contest..
