This image was not what I imagined when I created this contest. However, it is one of my favourite shots just because it stands out as being different. The way the angled pose of the horse was captured is raw, beautiful, and real. I think the only thing that kept it out of the top 10, for myself, was the portrait orientation. I think this shot would have been better suited to landscape orientation. Amazing capture non-the-less!
When I created this challenge I was really hoping for some out of the box captures that fit the brief. This shot delivers that. It shows the beauty and grace of the horse perfectly, but does so in an atypical way. I love how the horse is facing away from the camera, clearly very curious about something in the other direction. I love the angle of the light illuminating the mane and ears. Most of all I love the shallow depth of field and the sunflowers as another point of interest. Beautiful!
I simply love shots of these white horses running through the water. There are many angles and ways to get a shot like this, but, this image has it all. It captures a group of four strong horses at a gallop. Their power and muscles evident in the glow of the fading/rising sun. The pose of the lead horse with the hoof forward is perfect. The angle of the shot is also incredible catching a very pleasing front/side view of the group. Their splashing wake is also clear. Combining all this with the still water reflection in the foreground, brings the whole image together perfectly. Power, grace, and beauty can all be seen here.

Humans and horses have a long history together. Horses have been integral parts of our lives for thousands of years, until very recently. They are powerful animals with a unique grace and beauty about them. This goal of this contest is to be an ode to the horse. Try to capture any, or all of these characteristics of horses in any setting, with one caveat: please keep the focus limited to just horses, no people or riders will be accepted!

Meet the judge
I had to commend this image because it stands out in it's subject and composition, yet still stays true to the brief. The inclusion of the trailer without and people present and the low angle the shot was taken at gives a striking view. The only thing I wish was different about this image, for this challenge at least, would be for the horse to feature more prominently. Very well shot.
