Great contest!

A lovely vibrant image, capturing the rich orange paintwork filling the frame, without beng over-saturated. A simple but effective composition, some may find the subject rather mundane, but I love the details captured, which hold the interest, as there are plenty of different shapes, lines and textures for the eye to explore. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A well composed image, showing the weathered cobwebby bolt positioned centrally in the frame, surrounded by peeling wood panels with nicely contrasting colours coming from the brown woodstain and the green algae. Details have been kept in sharp focus, and there is plenty for the eye to explore. Simple, but effective, well done on your top ten placing.

I love the colour contrasts you have captured here, between the dark red paintwork and the vivid yellowy-green of the algae crusting on the weathered wood. The inclusion of the thin wire fastening makes the image, and indicates that is now likely required, as the older and more sturdy fastenings are maybe beyond use. Plenty of details to explore, from the algae, the squashed rusty nails and the lettering on the door support hanger. Well composed to make the most of the subject. Well done on your top ten placing.

What I especially love about this image is the capture of the light and the lovely tones, which bring a pleasing softness to the otherwise harsh subject of metal poles and fastenings. The wide aperture has enabled a shallow depth of field, which draws attention to the fastening joint, with the rest of the scene falling gently out of focus, but avoiding being a distracting blur. The conversion to black and white has been done very well, with darker tones dominant, but sufficient brighter tones to keep the image vibrant. Congratulations on your winning image.

What makes this image successful for me is the strong composition, with the belt and the seams of the garment on opposing diagonals. The buckle is centrally placed but that works well. Although the tones are mainly dark with relatively low contrast, this has captured some great texture on the heavy woollen cloth. A simple subject, but effectively captured, well done on your top ten placing.

A super macro shot of the ring-pull on a drinks can. The addition of the waterdrops brings the image to life, and adds more details for the eye to explore. Despite there being very little distance between the nearest and furthest elements, in macro shots it is not always easy to get clear focus throughout. Here however, the very narrow aperture has ensured maximum depth of field in this close-up, so everything is in sharp focus. I especially like the pattern in the matte surface of the can, which is very true to life. Good lighting to reveal the form of the subject without any harsh highlights or shadows. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

A simple subject, but you have selected a good perspective from which to photograph the door fastening, as we see two different aspects which gives the image plenty of interesting details. I especially like the tones within the image, as although everything is in clear focus, there is a pleasing softness in the processing style, which makes the metalwork especially attractive. The vignette has also been carefully applied to draw attention to the subject in a natural way. Well done on your top ten placing.

An unusual subject, you have done well to realise the potential for an interesting shot. Composition is great, with the cover and truck splitting the frame horizontally into one third/two thirds, and the number painted on the truck well contained within the frame. Lots of textural detail and patterns in the cover make the mundane subject an interesting image. Great contrasts bewteen the rich red and sharp white too. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

The lovely rich colours and close-up textural details initially drew me to this image. The viewpoint adopted gives a slightly unusual perspective on the lock and bolt, but the angles add a dynamic to the shot. Well focused, with the padlock in sharp focus as the main subject, with the rest of the scene retaining suffcient sharpness to reveal all the different textures, from the wood grain to the pitted corroding metal. Congratulations on your third place finish.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of any type of fastening. A fastening can be defined as a device which closes or secures anything, from a door to a coat. Examples of fastening your images could show include door bolts, window latches, buttons, zippers, buckles and laces. The fastening needs to be the focus of your image, so you may need to move in fairly close to your subject so the fastening can be clearly seen. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
