The unusual composition of this image initially drew my attention, and before I looked a little closer I initially thought I was looking at a diptych. For me the shot works well by vertically dividing the image into two, with the wooden fence on one side and the scene beyond showing on the other side of the shot. I like the juxtaposition between the harsh unnatral wire fencing and the soft natural flowers, with the colouring across the image working nicely too. Well done on your top ten placing.
This image was a late addition to my top ten, and the more I look at the image the more there is to appreciate. The contrast between the blues of the sky and the snow with the bright orange of the tiny building in the distance is striking. The wide angle lens has been used creatively, as initially there does not eem to be any of the typical distortion, but then the curves and waves of the fence and its shadow become more obvious, and seem to give the shot great fluidity. The sky is super, and really compliments the landscape. Great winter scene, capturing the low sunlight attempting to warm the landscape. Well done on your top ten placing.
This is a lovely atmospheric shot of the sun going down over the water, with the less-than-perfect fence silhouetted against the light. Where you have been especially successful is in your control and balancing of the light, as you have managed to avoid the brightest part of the image becoming burnt out, yet we also have detail in the darker areas. The long shadows cast by the fence add to the composition, acting as a lead-in for the eye to the setting sun. Great work, congratulations on your third place finish.
I love the symmetry of this shot - perfect, but not quite, with just enough differences each side to retain a naturalness and avoid it looking like an artificially "flipped" image. The processing technique works well with the subject, as it gives an aged and worn ferl to the shot, and the limited colour palette of browns and dark greens is very successful too. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
This unusual composition of such a mundane subject has been elevated to a great abstract graphic image through the extreme contrasts used in this truly black and white shot. You have done well to spot the potential for a great shot, which tells a story of either breaking in or breaking out through the slightly destructive creation of a sneaky shortcut through the fence. Well seen and creatively edited, well done on your top ten placing.
I love this graphic abstract shot, with the fence diminishing into the distance set on a strong diagonal across the frame. I believe the shot works better through being monochrome, as the use of just black and white adds to the simplicity and the graphic of the shot. The inclusion of the tufts of grass on the right help break up the white and add interest. Great image, congratulations on your second place finish.
Despite the gentle mist reducing visibility, there is a great deal of interest in this shot. I especially like the way you have captured the detail in wet grass, and I can almost feel the damp seeping through were I to wander along the grassy path. The all-important fence cuts a lovely diagonal across the frame, and the warm browns and gentle greens all blend beautifully. A simple but atmospheric rural scene, very well captured. Well done on your top ten placing.
This is a fantastic piece of black and white photography, well captured, full of atmospheric moodiness and superbly converted to monochrome. Composition and viewpoint works really well, with a clear foreground interest presented by the basic fence and the textures of the grass, with the fence and line of the dunes leading the eye to the beach huts in the distance. Super use of tones and contrasts, with the lighter areas drawing the eye to the main subjects, and the darker edges framing the scene beautifully. Whilst full of contrasts, the image has retained a delicate softness too. Congratulations on your winning image.

In this contest I want to see your best photos which show fences. The setting may be urban or rural. You may want to show close up details of the structure of the fence, or you may decide to show a wider scene or landscape containing a fence. Alternatively, you may wish to use a fence as a strong compositional element for your shot, such as a leading line, or a frame. Whatever you decide to show, please make sure the fence is a key part of your image. I look forward to seeing your entries.

This is a very attractive image, with lovely gentle lighting diffused by the clouds, and a gorgeous range of soft greens across the image. The wire fence creates a great compositional lead-in to the cottage in the mid-distance and the shot has been captured at just the right time to catch the sunlight making a brief appearance to highlight the distant fields. A wonderful image of some beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Well done on your top ten placing.
The atmosphere this image manages to convey is very appealing and drew me to this shot. The composition is great, with the line of the fence on each side leading into the frame before snaking around the bend and into the far distance where the track merges with the mist. I especially like the contrast between the cooler and warmer colours, with the chilly bluish white and the warmer colours where the weak sunlight is picking out the browns on the grass and fence. A lovely winter scene, perfect subject choice for this contest. Well done on your top ten placing.
