It heats us, provides light, cooks our food, and is used in ornamental ways, but it can also wreak havoc to our buildings and cities and be used as a weapon. In nature fire performs a role in promoting the cyclical renewal of habitats, but in recent times as the planet heats up it is increasingly threatening larger and larger areas with destruction.
