Congratulations for making the top ten! The symmetry captured is outstanding, the text creates a nice frame and the eye is drawn to the subject in the far distance, leading you out to sea. Composed really well and whilst it didn’t claim the top spot, it was still very intriguing and quite interesting.

Congratulations for making it into the top ten! This was a big contender for one if the top spots. Incredible capture of a dawn sunburst. It’s great when you get to capture something magical when virtually on your own. Being an early bird definitely had its rewards!

Congratulations for making the top spot! Really great image of a location I’ve shot before. Clear demonstration of patience; the best shots are always worth waiting for and this one has a great sky, golden hour sun nicely reflected on the gate and a lovely leading line to the mountain.

A highly commendable photo! This is a beautiful example of an urban gateway. Even if at odds with a countryside turnstile, this glimpse into a workman’s mountain of materials is no less intriguing than a mountain of rock on the horizon. A nicely composed entry.

This is a highly commendable photograph and was really close to getting into the the top ten. The broody looking sky emphasises the graveyard atmosphere despite the overall sunshine. Nicely captured, beautiful and equally haunting.

This is a highly commendable photo. Whilst it didn’t make the top ten, it is worthy of a mention! Beautifully composed with the sunburst captured perfectly. Great focus, the gate in the foreground is refreshingly sharp allowing you to see the frosty wood grain detail in the gate post.

This is a highly commendable photograph! The lighting and composition are superb and the surrounding landscape draws in the eye and warms you to what should be otherwise bleak.

Congratulations for making it to the top ten! I would’ve like to have seen more detail on the gate but the narrative is clearly composed. You definitely feel that this is one of the gates to the Milky Way and want to take my chances at going through.

Congratulations for making it to the top ten! I was really drawn in to this photo! Dartmoor is one of my favourite places to shoot due to sometimes unexpected change in conditions. The mist adds an air of mystique and interest, with the lighting creating an almost alien atmosphere.

This is a highly commendable photo. It didn’t make it to the top ten due to being a little too dark, but the composition is promising. I love this example of an urban gateway. There are elements of street photography which I am a big fan of.

Congrats for making it into the top ten! This shot lends itself to making the most of the natural surroundings and highlights what can be captured when you wait for the right moment. The sun coming through the portal is brilliantly centred.

Congratulations for making it into the top ten! This photo nearly made it to the top spot. The subject, background and overall appeal made it a worthy contender. Intriguing in its composition - you really want to know what else could be going on behind that door.

One is never too far from a gate, and its accompanying gateway. Whether out in the countryside throwing your leg over one, or peering through a closed one in a city, and wondering who or what lives beyond it. They provide a point of interest in landscapes, and often a decorative subject, or reminder of where one is not allowed, within the built environment. Either way, a great focal point for an image and excuse for a photowalk.
