The light and clarity in this image gives a wonderful impression of the space created by the glass roof of this famous Milan shopping gallery. In my opinion the decision to twist the camera slightly has made for a more interesting image. Initially I was less sure about the flare but came to the conclusion that it added to the sense of lightness, whether it was deliberate or not I'm less sure.

This frame-filling shot of subtley coloured glass is wonderfully balanced by the two warmer lights at either side of the frame. The vignette concentrates the viewers attention in the centre of the frame and adds 'depth' to the image. The inclusion of a perfectly placed figure is the 'icing on the cake' A very striking photo and one which matches the brief perfectly.
This high contrast black and white image of the Gherkin skyscraper is perfectly executed and very striking. Whilst I think the long exposure look has been created in post-production this has been done flawlessly.
Having given it much consideration I felt I've seen this kind of image many times before and whilst this is an excellent example it just missed out for this reason.

Abstract reflections were a popular subject subject for the competition. This is undoubtedly my favourite as the buildings frame creates a series of unique individual images. The non-linear reflections create a contrast with the rigid structure, the precision of the shot further enhancing the 'message' of the photo. Like another of my chosen images whilst this would work well in monochrome I do think the subtle colours enhance the image.

In architecture, glass can be used as external walls, internal partitions and a myriad of other features. Due to its reflective nature, it will be important for you to use the right settings when trying to photograph it, and aim to shoot in a softer, less harsh, light. You may be able to harness glass’ reflectivity to your advantage!
A dramatic shot of a place I'd very much like to visit myself one day. The composition and viewpoint have created a strong image and he mist adds some atmosphere and lifts this above a 'record' shot. As a result it only narrowly missed out on being included in my final selection of what was a very strong field.
