Timing is everything here, both for the free runner and the photographer! Parkour is a fascinating to watch, but tricky to capture. The photographer has chosen the perfect shutter speed to freeze the action and allowed enough space under the figure for us to imagine him travelling into it and landing. The grey of his T-shirt matches that of the walls, which is a nice touch too.

It’s the burst of colour that catches the eye in this picture, but when you look closer there is much more to it than just a wash of blue. The lines of the wall, stairs painted building and door really add to the graphic nature of the image and the cat making its way up the steps really gives it a lovely sense of depth.

Shooting in black & white has worked on so many levels here. Without the distraction of colour, the viewer is able to concentrate on the wonderful balance between the violinist, the horse and the painted figure on the left. It’s the perfect demonstration of the power of three! The frame within a frame element is effective too – it might have been tempting to close the door and concentrate on the violinist, but this detail elevates the picture. The posture of the violinist is great – his height and leg position mirror that of the painted figure. It’s a wonderful shot, packed with carefully observed details.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Graffiti remains controversial, even though Banksy’s street art has brought a new cachet and air of respectability to the genre, along with a lot of collectors’ money. Graffiti ranges from simple ‘tags’ of the artist’s name, or slogans daubed on walls, bridges and the like, through to elaborate and stunning murals, sometimes with a social or political theme. Shooting work for this contest offers the photographer a good reason to trawl their local town or city looking for interesting street art, in interesting places.
