Of all the dancing shots that relied on slow shutter speeds it was this 'frozen moment' that stood out. The movement is successfully echoed throughout the image, whilst the prominent shape of the anonymous dancers holds our attention. The fish-eye distortion further helps the composition by 'cradling' our main dancers. Well done!
The gentle visual wit of street photography has timeless appeal. Here the juxtaposition of the posters' message and the passer-by, both pun and offer a literal interpretation of the competition theme. The composition uses the two posters to effectively sandwich the lady and provide three main elements of design. Closer examination shows 'New Look' on the carrier bag, perhaps hinting at what comes next for the shop.
This picture grabbed my attention immediately. The contrast between the static figure and the appealing abstract shapes of the moving men is very effective. The figure on the left is very dominant, as he stares into the camera but at the same time all facial expression is lost. B&W was a perfect choice to remove the distraction of colour and emphasise shape.
The compelling pattern and simplicity of the design make this an intriguing portrayal of human movement. The hashtag 'performance' suggests this is an event set up to portray something of China's past, but whatever the circumstances this is a very strong graphic design and delivers an eye-catching result.
This image offers a fine-art feel with a strong story-telling element. The dark, foreboding forest suggests menace for the vulnerable traveller. The slow shutter speed has beautifully created the ghostly glow of a fairy-like creature; her whiteness and brightness illuminating the scene. A very imaginative approach to Human Movement.
This river of human movement was a popular approach throughout the competition, so there were many similar images, but this one has successfully lifted itself out of the crowd. The viewpoint is particularly strong and the static ladies in the doorway and man in the middle of the crowd provide good anchor points to emphasise the movement.
This picture embodies the agility, flexibility and skill of humans to adapt their movement. The fast shutter speed and shallow depth of field have combined perfectly with the shape of horse and rider. To enhance the picture I would consider reducing the saturation of the blue/white chequerboard and red flag in the background, so they do not distract attention.
The sadness of this image is immense. Here we see man's inhumanity to man. The ghosting shapes of the people moving past the poor individual on the floor serve to represent his invisibility - life goes on and beggars/disabled people are a common sight....certainly not something to disrupt the importance of catching a train...

Since photography is all about stopping motion and capturing one single moment in time, it can be a challenge to instill a sense of movement into just one frame. But skillful photography makes use of various techniques to give the image an energetic sense of motion in the eye of the observer. Have a go at capturing the grace and unpredictability of human movement for yourself.
The shape of the skater and her position against the skyline (achieved through a low viewpoint) really convey a sense of movement. I wondered if the impact would have been greater with the skater in focus, but there is something about her outoffocusness (yes, I know it's not a real word) that adds to the movement.
