First of all, I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those who took note of the brief when entering their images. Thank you. Again, as always, there were too many images that ignored the brief, something which - in my opinion - only contributes to the detriment of this online community....however, onto this image...
...which is, in my opinion, superb. I don't see too many images of Auschwitz taken this far back. I like the relatively lowdown perspective, which works very well along with the fading converging lines into the distance. The graininess of the processing with the general starkness of the whole composition add to the atmosphere which all comes together perfectly to make what I think is a brilliant image. What else can I say? Well done!!
One of those many images rendered that, for me, made me sit up and take notice when I first saw it. It works perfectly in black and white. You have a straightforward but very effective portrait here of someone who is obviously very proud of what she is holding. You've kept it simple, the backdrop of a wooden cabin to add some context and the subtle vignetting both go to finish it off rather nicely. I like it very much - many thanks for your entry.

I have a bit of a soft spot for such images such as this that are taken head on - a perspective not always thought of by many but which, under the right circumstances, can often work better. I would have perhaps considered cropping the greenery at the foot of the shot out to just focus on the messages themselves. No matter, I think it's a nicely observed shot and it works. Well done and many thanks for entering!

The moment I clicked onto this image it was 'wow'. The visual impact is immediate. I love the coolness of the colouring along with the placing of the figures within the image, which is perfect. The converging lines into the distance add depth to the image but the crowning glory has to be the circle of light which I will assume has not been photoshopped in! Perfect and many thanks for entering.

In this contest I would like the focus of your photos to be on personal tributes to those who have passed. Please do not enter photos which show only gravestones or general scenes from a cemetery. You could focus on tributes which have been left either at the scene of tragedy or on a larger memorial, or you could show memorials at a place the subject of the tribute particularly enjoyed in life. Please be respectful in your efforts and strictly no composite images.
Meet the judge
This is another image that completely ignores the brief. It was requested strictly no composite images and yet this was entered. That said, as an image in its own right, I actually quite like it. The sharpness, composition and contrast all come together quite nicely and - when coupled with the colour separation of the bunch of flowers - make for a very thought-provoking image. But it's not right for this competition and I - and many others - would much prefer it if the brief was adhered to prior to entering an image into a competition.
