It's not only the pleasing composition, the subtle gradients and the cool pink sunrise tones that make this the winning photograph. The transition of mist flowing over the primary focal point adds a movement within the image, which takes the eye on a journey down through the eerie shadows of the foreground trees then up the slope of the distant hill. Resting again on the twin towers of the castle. It is truly sublime and a deserved winner. Thank you for sharing.

Fog and mist are nature’s mood enhancers when it comes to landscape photography. Adding intrigue and interest to a scene, the photographer often needs to work quickly when those tiny water droplets are in just the right formation, because as quickly as they arrive can they also disperse.

The subdued tones and texture in this image really convey the fogginess of the morning, and the long exposure ghosting of the waves contrasts the sharp reflections of the pier in the wet sand perfectly. There is much more detail in the wet sand than in the sky, and I wonder whether a crop change could have made a more robust image. The reflections at the bottom left corner of the image are close to the edge of the frame and create a little too much tension, as does the partially cut-off vertical strut of the pier structure. Maybe these can be tweaked with a different crop. A lovely image; however, thank you for sharing.

I really like the composition with multiple layers in this image. The primary focal point of the silhouetted photographers in the foreground interacts beautifully with the secondary focal point of the building on the horizon in the distance. The hills rising out of the mist in the middle act as stepping stones for the eyes to travel through the image. The one thing that I find quite distracting is the cage in the bottom right corner, which my eye keeps getting drawn to. Could a slightly different angle have removed that from the frame? If so I think it would have made a stronger image. It is however still a great capture and one you should be proud of. Well done.

This image really stood out amongst the other entries. The colourful glow on the horizon, permeating through the morning mist and warming the cold landscape, really makes me want to be standing there and enjoying the scene, with my camera, of course. I think the composition could be a little more potent if the building was more central in the frame or not so close to the left edge. Much of the right edge has little interest and could be cropped out to give the image more focus on the main elements of the building and the foreground texture and detail in the grasses. An image you should certainly be proud of, well done.

An interesting image of an incredible landscape. The subdued tones are caused by the suns rays trying to fight their way through the fog and mist, which the photographer has captured very well. I think if the shutter was released just a fraction of a second earlier so the boat was central, it would have told a stronger story, leading the eye into the distant landscape. As it is now the boat leads the eye out of the frame as it is too far to the right. Think about timing when photographing moving elements as they can convey additional meaning to your photographs. Thanks for sharing.

Minimalism in photography can create some stunning photographs, and here we see a near-perfect example. With almost no detail, this image is made with the most subtle tonal changes and only the faintest outline of the focal point, all held together with the fence leading the eye through the image. For me, the only thing that just knocks this out of the top 10 is the thin slither of light between the first fence post and image frame. Personally, I would have either given it more breathing space during capture or cropped it out in post-processing. It is still a stunning image. Well done.

There's a nice feeling of mystery about this image, something about it gives it a sense of victorian history like it's a photo from 100 years ago. The strong graphical elements of the lamps on poles interplay beautifully with the flat grey foggy sky behind them. The one thing that I find distracting is the thin slither of light between the edge of the wooden structure and the left edge of the image frame. It creates a tension that draws my eye, and I don't think it was an intentional addition. When composing images, remember that points of tension or bright spots at the edge of the frame can draw the eye and lead the eye out of the picture and away from the main subject. Perhaps a slight crop could solve this. It is still a lovely photo, however. Well done.

There is some beautiful light, tone and depth in this image. The view into the watery distance, draped in mist reminds me of the cold and dampness of autumn mornings, while the warmer tones of the falling leaves in the wooden opening on the left contrast beautifully in colour and warmth. The extra detail of the rings in the water from falling droplets from the trees enhance the scene. My eye really wants to see a little more of that left side wooden area which currently feels a little awkward. Also, there is an edge down the right side of the composition which doesn't add much detail to the image. Perhaps a slight turn to the left to capture more of the woodland opening would have made a stronger image. I still really like it though. Well done - and extra kudos that this was taken on an iPhone.

Compositionally there is nothing I can say to improve this image. It tells a strong story of an early morning sunrise over the river, leading the eye across the mirror-like water which emphasises the texture and detail of the grasses against the reflection of the sky. The eye is led through to the jetty on the right and up to the burst of colour in the sky. Some editing has been done to enhance the tones of the image which has left strong halos around the riverbank on the right and around the tops of the trees. I would suggest exploring masking techniques in the editing software you have used. If you use Lightroom for example there are some excellent tools at your disposal to prevent this and to concentrate your edits to certain tonal ranges. Lightroom also has an auto-mask feature on its brushes which would help greatly. It's still a lovely photograph though, well done and thanks for sharing.

The classic Hope Cement Works, viewed from the foot of Mam Tor during an early morning cloud inversion. I've tried many times to capture one but never had the luck of the clouds on my visits. I love the orange glow and the cooler blue clouds dancing with each other. The triangle of the land on the right really grounds the image and gives context and additional detail with the silhouetted trees on the slope. My eye is always drawn however to the dark area across the top of the frame, which is unfortunate to have had on that morning. Strong dark or light elements on the edges of the images can cause unintentional focal points that detract somewhat from the overall image. Thanks for sharing your lovely image though.

I love the morning sunrise tones in this image, the gentle gradients of the low-level mist adding intensity to the stark detail of the silhouetted buildings and trees. I don't necessarily mind the tree in the foreground, but it feels a little awkward on its own. I'd say the image either needs more tree detail to balance the foreground, or the photographer should have strived to find a composition without the tree. Either way could have made a more robust image. Thanks for sharing and interesting to see a place not far from Koblenz where I used to live.

This image really stood out to me, with the baby cow looking at the photographer. It really conveys how cold it must have been that morning. I like how the group of cows fills the frame horizontally, and the background trees disappearing into the mist give a subtle backdrop. It's a shame that the large tree on the left takes up the same space as the two feeding cows' heads, as they somewhat get lost in detail. Perhaps taking a step to the right could add some separation to the focal point of the heads and the detail of the tree. It's still a cracking shot through. Well done.

What an incredible photograph. It certainly answers the brief of 'In the fog and mist'. The deer is framed beautifully between the two trees in the background, allowing the light from the rising sun in the back to add tonal separation. It looks like you've used a graduated neutral density filter (either physical or digital) to compensate for the exposure of the brighter sky against the darker foreground. The filters transition is placed just across the deer's head, causing the head and antlers to be much darker than the rest of its body. This is a common problem with graduated filters (the same issue can be seen on the trees). Perhaps try using a softer graduated filter or position the transition higher up the frame. Additionally, post-processing with masks can pull back the detail from the underexposed darker areas, and I feel that would have made a more robust image to see more detail on the deer's face. It is still a stand-out image. Well done, and thanks for sharing.
