This was surprisingly one of only about three wedding images in the contest. I was not going to let one into the top 10 but the image actually sums up the use of many stately homes today. Used for filming, weddings, photo shoots etc etc. A lovely composed image with the little details of the venue and the central important focus. Lovely use of light and shade. Completely staged but a very nice memento of the bride, day and venue..... The room has been well set up and the photographer has used all elements very well, the door, the lamp, the flowers, the curtains and the window, clever use of natuaral and artificial light.
Thankyou for the very detailed description, that helped in boosting its position. A lot of effort gone into creating this image and well worth it, outstanding photo, gorgeous composition and symmetry. The 3d effect and the shaping of the floor up close anf the ceiling shaping is awsome. Very well done an impressive photo creation. The venue should be suitably impressed with this a should the viewer be....
The title sums this one up, I work on a private estate with a stately home and we are nowhere near this bad but the image immediately gels with many who have experienced neglected stately homes. This really shows the other side of public houses and sadly many many have been ruined or on a fast track to destruction. Well done in stretching the brief and being different to the majority of contributors. The image being dull and drab still has a lot of vibrance and interest, nicely composed with the door and nicely sharp, something very lacking in this contest.........
There were a few laundry rooms and quite a few kitchens in the contest but I was taken with this one. The display of, I assume, undergarments so cleverly laid out is brilliant for the composition of this image. It really reminded me of 'The Three Musketeers' films from the 70's. Nice clean photo no clutter and nice use of natural light. Everything positioned well and the door beckons you through. Well done.......
The composition and the reflection won it for me. Lovely use of light and depth and there is enough to catch the details in the architecture. Shame about the big curved thing on the right breaking up the light/reflection.......... Looks a bit more like a hotel than a stately home but it looks historically and architecturally fitting...... I am very fond of contrast so this works well with me........ A top 10 right from the start..
Very nice use of monochrome and the slight 'wetplate' feel and subtle grain. Nicely composed off-centre bed and almost vanishing left-hand side stretching and fading into the vignette. Competent use of artificial lamplight and daylight through the shutters. You focus heavily on the bed which has a 3d feel with masses lovely shade and shadow then your vision draws around the lighting then the furniture and painting detail. Coming back to the composition - every detail is in the shot wether accident or deliberate the positioning is genius. Was in my top 10 from the start..... Well done this one stands out a mile.....
There were literally hundreds of dining room shots in the contest and I must say this was the best, sadly too many great images to make the top 10. Thank you for including this that was by far the better, especially as most were blurred I'm afraid..... the angle is slightly too low for my taste as it's a table scene, but I appreciate your constraints as given in description. f16 a personal favourite especially in a candle bulb interior, well done......

Possibly the best image in the contest showing just a detail not an entire room, sadly just missed out on a top 10 due to a great set of images..... Straightening the image may improve slightly and the right-hand shelf is a little distracting, but the window and the natural light are a great touch........

For this contest, we want to see the inside of what we in the UK we call a stately home, (a large mansion/house open to the public usually historical). The rooms, architecture and the history. Make sure Photography is allowed in the house.
