Jump

An image made unique by the distinctive angle from where it was shot, this picture is the perfect embodiment of the word 'jump'. I like how the harsh sunlight highlights the boy's silhouette, beautifully setting his body apart from the background without casting shadows over the face, allowing us to catch a glimpse of the boy's expression. The glare at the top centre of the frame, together with the perfectly blue skies, give a true 'summer' vibe to the shot. Extra points for the perfect swirl of flying sand in the bottom right corner of the frame! A fantastic, memorable shot. Well done!

There are many things that captivate me about this image. First of all, the lighting. The back light works incredibly well in highlighting the water jets, creating a beautiful stark contrast between the subject's dark silhouette and the bright spraying water that makes for one of the many strengths of this shot. The second thing I particularly love about this image is the symmetry. The interesting-looking buildings in the background frame the image well, creating a sense of symmetry, together with the lines of the paving in the foreground, that is pleasing to the eye. Even without seeing the subject's face, the image exudes joy and lightheartedness. What a great shot. Well done!
