I couldn't help but feel sorry for this old lady, seeking to make a miserable living through selling cheerful flowers - whatever the weather! She seems to be of pension age, but that's properly not enough to survive, so she has to brave the cold, trying to sell some cheer to others. A wonderful capture of the harsh realities of life. The contrast between the bright and cheery colours of the flowers against the drab grey colours of the surroundings and the woman's clothes is very poignant.
There could only be one winning image for me and it's this b/w documentary photo about the people, who have to live on the margins of society. Thank you so much for entering this hard-hitting image, that is shining a light on the shocking realities of life for so many people around the globe. This is a great example of the saying: 'One picture can say so much more than a thousand words.' The choice of b/w greatly enhances the impact.

Thank you so much for this very detailed image of old age. Nothing makes you feel better when you're cold and miserable than a mug of something hot to warm you from the inside out. I feel this photo, as my hands look very similar to these ones, just without the rings. Your image captured so much more than just a pair of hands holding a mug - it's the age-old story of getting old and trying to hang in there and survive the best you can.

What a joyful image! The pretty little face and the bright, sparkling eyes of the little baby are such a contrast to the massive grey wrapping surrounding it. It is exactly this contrast and the simplicity of the photo that makes it stand out for me. A bright look to the future, or against all odds - it's a great shot.
Poor Maisy doesn't seem to be looking forward to a cold walk, her eyes are pleading for another layer of warmth - bless her. Our Saluki tends to look at me like this. You are such a wonderful dog photographer who's capable of bringing the dog alive in a photo. This is such a great skill. Thanks for entering this wonderful photo of a lovely pet.

This contest is for your photos showing ways humans and animals keep themselves warm in the colder months. Your entry can show anything from warm clothes to home insulation or radiators, shelter or hot food and drink. Some people might exercise themselves to keep warm, birds may puff their feathers up; whatever it takes to keep warm, I am looking forward to all your images.
