Kitchen Utensils

Thank you for entering the Kitchen Utensils contest. There were a number of whisk entries in various guises, but this high key image was one of my favourites. I see you’ve used a Nikon D90, which proves you don’t need a new or expensive camera to take a good shot. Personally, I would not have added the border but it’s quite narrow so is not a distraction. A well presented image.

Being borderline vegan means I should not really have awarded a shot of a meat tenderiser, but I liked it! 👍 I don’t recall seeing many similar utensils entered, so in that respect, your choice of subject is original, and the lighting shows it off well, and the post-cropping is just right.

The object has dimension, shape and texture, and is well placed in the frame. You have not cropped the image too tightly, thus leaving sufficient “breathing” space.

Thank you for entering the Kitchen Utensils contest. Initially, it was the colours that drew my attention to this image - I liked the relationship between the red and the vivid green, although I wasn’t sure what it was. However, on closer inspection (and a larger screen) I saw that it was a colander. There were a few colander entries but this was my favourite, and the drops of water definitely gave this image the edge over the others. A visually appealing and creative shot.
