Monkeys and Great Apes

My favorite thing about this photo is the red eyes of the monkey. Their clarity and color immediately draw the viewer in and they are simply mesmerizing. The contrasting blur of the background makes the subject stand out even more. This was a difficult contest to judge because there were so many incredible photos. Great job!

This is an amazing photo in so many ways! The clarity is brilliant. The texture shown by the water droplets on the monkey's fur and the wrinkles on his face make me want to reach out and touch him. The blurred snowflakes remind the viewer that it is indeed winter and they add depth to the photo. There were so many great photos in this contest, but this one deserves the top spot! This is a great photo! I love the look of total concentration on the baby's face. It makes me want to be there in person so I can get a closer look and see what he is doing! Meanwhile, the mother looks totally relaxed alongside her offspring. The white background gives the photo a calming effect and brings the viewer's attention back to the monkeys. Wonderful job!

I love several things about this photo. The contrast of the frail white baby being supported by the strong mother makes for a powerful image. The glow of the back lighting around the mother's body also adds strength to the image. The open space to the left of the two monkeys leads the viewer to wonder what is beyond the frame. Great job!

This is such a great photo! The look on each monkey's face tells a different story. The baby looks very peaceful as he gets warmed by his parents. And it seems like the father is kissing the mother on the head which makes this a captivating image. The texture of the snow on their fur adds another great element of detail to the photo.
