Mundane places

March 2026

Thank you on your entry for the Mundane places contest, I really liked your photo and its colour grading in particular. The mix of graphics are well aligned with the roughness of the brick work. A Mundane place, yes but well captured.

Congratulations, I have chosen your photo as the winner for this contest, Mundane places. I really enjoy with multi layers of narratives here: a joyful yellow wall with a ordered range of socks being hung to dry. It's interesting in this context as it is a mundane task to hang washing but with this minimal backdrop is a good shot.

When wandering with our cameras we are often on the lookout for something exciting, something that fits our idea of being photogenic, or beautiful. But what if you started taking pictures of the ‘boring’ places, the back of the shops, the car park, the gate to the local field, or the side of your house? There are many opportunities close at hand to explore, to frame and compose, and to study with your camera and your eye, asking what can be found that is interesting there.

Congratulations on your entry with this photo, it is a really interesting context in this contest. A mundane place is exhausting for your subject but you have framed it with an active passerby which encourages movement in a still place. Well done.
