This is such a cheerful image portraying music as an art that brings us pure happiness. The sense of harmony and sharing the enjoyment of playing music in togetherness shines through. The location and the bright, warm complementary colours matches the Latin American type of music in a great manner. Additionally excellent composition and detail really draws me into the scene to the point that I feel like I can almost hear the music! After seeing so many amazing entries portraying music it was a tough task to choose the winner. However this shot really stood out from everything else. It’s a simple yet very powerful image with a duality that I find rather touching.

One can interpret it as a sad and tragic story of emptiness, isolation and a lack of music. On the other hand, the presence of the window, the beautiful light coming into the room and the warm colour tones balances the melancholy of the scene and gives the feeling that silence can also have a therapeutic and healing power. Outstanding work and big congratulations for a well deserved first place in my contest!

Well...if someone asked me what kind of music was played here I’d have no doubts -it’s a Portuguese fado. Fado is a very sad, passionate, lyrical and melancholic music that expresses the feeling of great lost or grieving. This photo shows all those deep emotions so well! The musician’s pose, facial expression and the fact he’s looking away says a lot about his feelings and the type of music he’s playing! He’s not engaging with the audience but he’s simply singing stories out of his soul. I also like the light that is emphasising his face and the mandolin. The black and white works really well adding to the mood. Excellent photo that fits the brief really well! Congratulations on your well deserved placement in the top ten in this contest!

This is a truly beautiful and atmospheric still life arrangement that talks to me about calmness, relaxation and sentimental feelings that music can bring in us. The natural elements in it additionally give the sense of connection between music and nature which can be such a great inspiration for composing! The warm autumnal tones of the leaves complement the rich body of the violin and add a magic to the whole scene. Stunning piece of photography and very well done!!

Wow! What a creative and unusual interpretation of music in this image! I can almost hear all those bizarre, chaotic and rather cacophonous tones just by looking at it. But it also seems to work together really well... a bit like a jigsaw puzzle. It makes me think about some modern trends especially in alternative experimental music. But like with any other arts, music is a form of expression that shouldn’t be limited. Great idea and a very skilfully executed composite. This is such a creative and very well executed composite that fits the brief perfectly. It reminds us that we can not only hear but also see through music. Beautiful monochromatic toning and excellent composition draws us into the picture. Additionally the main focus on the eye expression holds the viewer’s attention for longer than usual.
