Natural reflections on surfaces

This image caught my eyes because of the colorful contrast between blue and red. However, if that would be all my eyes would not stay with the image. At second glance the worker got into my view. The blue and red reflection on the wet floor mingle with the person that is stepping on the border of the white circle which is visible especially in the dry part of the image. The composition then suggests that this person is working at a harbor or something similar. Overall this image tells a short story using pleasant colors and a balanced composition.

This image is in many ways striking. There are not many elements but the few that are there guide the viewers eye through the image. The colors are tempered but still interesting and they support the quietness this image transmits. All this would not make an interesting image yet. The key point here is the reflection on the deck. It is not simply a pool of water as anyone would expect. The viewer is puzzled how such a reflection would be possible on wood and one is left with guessing. This makes the eyes going through the image over and over again and although the image is calm the interest of the viewer is kept at a high level.

A great scene after a rain period well seen by the photographer. It is not a special neighborhood nor is the picture screaming at the viewer. What makes this image special is the composition with the three main objects: the car, the church and the person rushing through the pond. The balanced arrangement of the three objects makes the viewers eye wandering between them and suggests a story with the reflection echoing it. The black and white further focuses the viewer on composition strengthening the message.

This image makes me feel to be on holidays. The pastel color gives the picture a lightness and the reflection of the clouds on the wet sand lifts the people walking along the seashore above ground evoking the feeling in the viewer that they are flying. Although there appears to be quite some heavy wind the waves do not appear to be dangerous. This impression is achieved by a slight overexposure of the waves and the clouds, which takes out the darkness and lowering the contrast.

This upside down image shows the reflection of the St. Pauls Cathedral on the wet floor. What gives this image a special touch are the colors. The colors are distinct in the different tiles. They go from blue to purple and yellow and produce a dynamic in this image that is supported by the beam-like arrangement of the tiles. This fits perfectly to the holy cathedral and gives the viewer the impression of enlightenment. This abstract representation of the cathedral reminds one a bit of the pictures by the painter Paul Klee.

The domination of the red color makes this image fascinating. The pond is like a mirror producing this red domination of the image. The blue sign and the person in the middle perfectly contrast the red and immediately capture the viewers attention. One starts to realize that the neighborhood here is not as beautiful as it appears at first glance. This is reinforced by the second person that makes not a very happy impression on the viewer. The contrast between beauty and poverty keeps the viewer looking longer at this image than average.

This orange dominated image is abstract at first glance and one wonders what is captured here spiking the interest of the viewer. The water drop at the end of the petal of a flower resolves the secret. It reflects a complete neighboring flower indicating to what the green part in the image and the petal belong to. What enhances this effect additionally is the blue and purple in and around the drop making the color composition pleasant for the eye. Overall a beautiful macro image.

With a wide angle lens the photographer captures here the dynamic feeling of a race car. The reflection on the water surface underscores the beauty of the car . The lemon green color contrasts beautifully with the blue in the sky and the reflection, making the car almost jumping out of the picture. The image captures the beauty and aggressiveness of the car and the clouds in the sky give it an additional dynamic, suggesting the speed of the car, although it is just standing in front of a pond.
