The picture as a whole, and looking closer, all the details of it honor the brief of the challenge! What a nice countryside in the discrete, golden winter light! The first frost, the last leaves, the mist and may be some snow... And such a graceful bend in the road, round shapes in the mountains and meadows! Thank you for entering this challenge and congratulations! One very small regret for me: I would have loved to see the whole silhouette of the tree on the left...
Grace, elegance and subtility, are the words which come into my mind when looking at this photo of a simple dirt road in the woods with pale light... The frost of the night bends the birch trees,. Each branch and each small twig ihas become white and heavy.. I do love the very soft, pastel like colours of the blue, green, beige, and grey hues of this very poetic picture, another type of soft atmosphere of the winter time! But where is this forest? A small word about it would be nice!
All the soul of Iceland is in this vast and beautiful panorama of mountains, snow and fluffy clouds,. To me, this photo evokes a pencil drawing where stronger and fainter lines underline the many details of the impressive relief.. The road leads very nicely to the only colour visible in the whole landscape, the red roofs of a small church. The natural lights of Iceland are very special. I thank you for entering into this challenge with a seldom seen kind of picture! Congratulations!
There are a few other Kirkjufellsfoss photos in this challenge and it was sincerley heartbreaking for me to choose one of them for the top ten as they are all gorgeous.! May the other authors pardon me for prefering this one for today, as in my opinion, it matches perfectly with the idea I have of the brief of this challenge.. I do love this discrete icelandic winter sky with faint colours while the rest is almost a sober black and white.. Thank you for entering this challenge with such an authentic icelandic atmosphere! Congratulations!
What a great place to go when needing pristine nature, lonelines and serenity! Everything is beautiful: the sky, the forest and the water! I do like the way we enter into the picture by following the gentle;, meandering river. The natural light and the discrete colours contribute to a genuine winterly atmosphere.. Thank you for being such a good ambassador for Canada! Thank you for joining this challenge and congratulations!
Congratulations for catching this very special and ephemeral light of a bright sunrise which illuminates the landscape and make it look divine ! I can feel the crisp and clear air of the atmosphere, with a little pink on the snow and a nice transparency in the reeds. The photo looks very simple, but looking at it again, I can find out many qualities of composition, colours, softness and sharpness at the same time. The Great Lakes have lots of beauty to offer to a nature photographer! Thank you for proving it, even during winter time! Thank you for joining in this challenge!
Black and white is also an excellent way to celebrate the winter time and its special moments,. like here on a misty day along the canal. We humans like to go outdoor even if the weather is cool. We do need to walk, breathe, look around and get aware of the many transformations around us during winter! Thank you for entering this challenge and congratulations!
This very vast mountain landscape is so real and inviting that I feel myself transported to the summit, able to say hello to the snowshoe hikers.! The last sunrays embrace the whole space with warm setting colours, as far as the horizon, while the first shadows already darken the whole scene. This is the kind of pictures I did expect for this challenge as it proves that winter can be a wonderland of natural lights!. It tells also stories of effort, contemplation and even of worship. I thank you for sharing this outstanding photo with us all! Congratulations for being at the top of my choice in this challenge!

Show me your photos of landscapes in nature in the natural light of winter. Winter is sometimes considered as a dull season with poor light, which may be the reason why we find it magical when suddenly light appears, somewhere, somehow, sometimes for only a brief moment. Show me how enchanting winter light can be when it makes a wonderland of a whole landscape or a small fragment of it. The winter light can be bright or soft, colourful or monochrome, but please only enter photos taken outdoors in natural places; no indoor shots or artificial light. Images can be in colour or black and white.
