I would like to see your best landscape photos using the composition technique of "near and far". This is one of the more popular techniques most typically seen in landscape photography, using a wide angle shot to allow a very close object to anchor a dramatic distant view such as mountains or skies. When done properly, the two views are balanced and complimentary to one another. Your images should be well thought out landscape compositions in colour or black and white, catching and holding the interest of the viewer. I look forward to seeing what you enter.
This image is so dark and foreboding, but it holds the imagination of the viewer beautifully. I kept coming back to this photo as I ranked my favorites, each time finding something that attracted my interest more. Beautifully balanced between light and shadow with a moodiness that make it appear almost like a painting. Great job.
Horizontal images in this style can sometimes be difficult to compose but this one is very well done. The foreground rock and wood lead the eye towards the mountain and clouds. The lines in the sky pull the eye towards the mountain as well. The foreground textures are balanced so well with the soft sky and hazy horizon. Well done.
One of the great aspects of "near and far" photography is the ability of the photographer to draw the viewer into another world. This image's simplicity gently draws the viewer in and makes them want to wander through the field to explore the villa on the hill. The splash of light in the foreground is like an arrow pointing the way and the shadow is a meandering path through the wheat and up the hill. I can feel the sun and smell the wheat. Amazing!
This is a beautiful composition with the well worn path and fence that leads the viewer's eye along the ridge, into the distance and the rising warmth of the sun. What a day awaits the Peak District hiker. I have to say that this was one of the first images that caught my eye in early reviews. Congratulations!
This is a perfect example of near and far imagery. There is a lot going on here, with the detailed rocks in the foreground, long exposure water movement and amazing Bow Fiddle Rock central subject. I loved the balance between the cool tones in sky and water, against the warmer tones of the rocks, a real tour de force image. Congratulations!
I felt this image might be a real sleeper in this contest. Its simplicity disguises the power of the composition. There is a wonderful example of color theory at work here with the two main colors being opposites on the color wheel, adding to the appeal for the viewer. Light vs Shadow, sun left and rocks right, diagonally divided by the water movement. I really love this image.
