Oh yes! The simplicity of this and the perfect execution/use of rule of thirds properly makes this image stand out! I was assuming it's long exposure and that's water, but was showing it someone annd they thought maybe it's still the sand... can you let me know :)
Either way it doesn't detract from just how good this shot is and a pleasure to look at. Lovely!
I just had to leave a little review on this photo, for you had me really smiling. It's a great composition but the best bit of detail in this shot was your choice to move the vase just off the edge and balance it against the wall - this for me truly made this shot and made me smile a lot. Great work and attention to creating that little easter egg of a detail.
I just had to leave a little review on this shot for you. That background is so far from negative space with so much business yet somehow works, and still the image composition very much brings the eye onto the randomness of the business man on a deck chair! It shouldn't work but so does! A truly interesting photo which made me ponder and pushed the boundaries of this genre and so wanted to give it some recognition. Great work!
This is what I call extreme negative space, really taking it to the limit and have to say it works extremely well! The balance of that solo person on the right is just the finishing touch to this shot. I love a photo that stops me in my tracks and makes me think and wonder... wonder whether the solo knows the group, or will say hello, or walk on by... this is negative space done so well! Be super proud of this :)
My word that soft background is epic! Talk about making your subject pop! A fabulous shot, technically brilliant and maybe not my favourite of birds but there's no denying how sharpness and the stoic and muted colours that this one has thanks to a rather epic photograph taken by a clearly talented person. Fabulous work.
As soon as I saw this I stoped to really study it. Of course it perfectly met the criteria, but there were subtle nuances that kept my attention, such as the inter twined stems yet are not touching and the butterfly look to the shot. This to me demonstrates just how much care and attention you took in composing the shot, and what a wonderful shot it is - the power of the negative space on the subject is superb.
Somehow the busy background still gave off a very neutral background and the person still became very much the subject. I had this in my shortlist very quickly. Technically a superb shot, very well balanced exposure and contrast, 5 stars! But for me was more minimalist style than negative space, and so just dipped out on a top ten finish - but wanted to say that it is truly a fabulous shot and would easily win a minimalist award!
Oh yes!! This is a truly stunning shot, so well balanced and the exposure on the swam is just something else. Superb use of the negative space, and although normally additional subjects would be detracting, I finnd this just perfectly complementing and keeps it still very much about the swan. Great work!
This baffled my head for so long! I stared and stared at it with intrigue and for that reason I think this is a superb shot. The texture in teh exposure is fabulous, not to mention the great composition. The open door makes you truly wonder and image more with this shot as you look at it. Is it me but just gives off a sense of George Orwells 1984 - I have no idea why.... but just what came to my mind. Would love to know where this was taken, please let me know..
For me I had this shot in my shortlist so quickly, and yet battled with myself as to how much it met the 'negative space' concept. It certainly has plenty of space, and you certainly took it with space in mind. I think I simply fell in love with the shot in it's own right for the beauty that you spotted, stopped and had to capture with the best camera (the one you had on you). The layers are superb and the tapering off of the boats is just so good. I would so hang this on my wall, it really is a fantastic shot.
Just an incredible shot, that screamed "negative Space!" The image is striking, perfectly exposed, wonderfully sharp and the placement of the bird and the long drawn out reflection just makes the shot - the whole image emphasises the bird and nothing else, elevating it to high standard. Seriously wonderful photography, and annn absolute pleasure to have seen.

What a wonderful creation you have made here. The boat is so clearly the subject, and emphasised greatly by the space around it, the reflection exquisite and capturing just enough of the horizon to give a hint of the horizon but not detract from the boat - such a well captured shot - this should be handing big and proud on your wall!

This contest is for your photos of any subject composed with negative space. Surrounding a subject with a lot of negative or empty space can make a subject really stand out. Try to keep your subject simple and your background plain so as to not distract from your subject. I look forward to seeing the simplicity you can create through the use of negative space.
I wanted to leave a review for you on this shot, as it was in my favourites right from the get go. Just wanted to congratulate you on a beautiful photograph that is really fabulously taken. The sharpness and light, and then the expression, the focus on the eyes was just wonderful. The standard of shots was so high and so many that it was really hard choice and I had a shortlist of around 35 that I considered 'excellent' but sadly couldn't fit you all into ten positions :)
Wanted to congratulate you as you got my eye with this one, it's so not a subject that really floats my boat that much but I have to admit you made me stop scrolling with this one. Technically superbly executed, well lit, and great composition. You may have won me round on flowers when I see how well they can be done like this - bravo!
This was such a simple idea and had amazing geometric shapes with strong lines and contrast - a fabulous shot! The standard was superbly high for the contest, but you were in my shortlist to make the top ten but just missed out. The minimalist style of this was brilliant though, and wanted you to know its an extremely good shot.
To get this shot must have been something else! What a location to be in and opportunity too. Fabulous execution and certainly not easy to balance the white against white without losing any of the detail. The sharpening has given the beak a more painted look, not sure if on purpose or not but gave it that more drawn feel to it. Great work!
This shot just kept moving up my rankings as I was trying to judge all of the wonderful photos submitted, and the standard was immensely high. You were most definitely in my shortlist for this, and ordinarily for a negative space to work so well needs minimal background detail, yet somehow this works so well - everything is still about the two people and everything feels very balanced. Fabulous photo!
Oh wow, what a moment caught! Really love the positioning, and the exposure is so good! Just enough to show the bumpiness but with zero detraction. A perfect negative space shot indeed! btw, I was limited to giving the order of chosen shots to the top 10, but you were right up there and literally just lost out in 11th spot.
This image really got me, I fell in love with the colour os the last bit of sun cast across the water, the lonesome rower surrounded in the vastness of the sea, normally I prefer there to be no distractions other than the subject in this genre BUT... the small plastic bottle draws your eye away and then you realise that in it's self represents one of the biggest negatives! Double bubble. This was a super strong shot, and really liked it.
