A beautifully judged and composed photograph that combines sports with environmental portraiture. The stunning and sweeping backdrop of palm tress and the well controlled highlights in the soft and gentle clouds and blue sky offset the drama of the young men playing what looks like a type of football but in watery conditions. The way they all look at different areas with the boy on the right and goal keeper looking at the ball high in the air whilst the others perform this ritual that only sports can offer. The de- saturation works well in a picture that really holds our attention. Great capture. Very well done.
This uncompromising environmental portrait really packs a punch. The stare to camera validates the photographers approach and the subjects approval of being photographed. The red of the shirt they wear really stands out against the black of the jacket and red brick work slightly out of focus which helps us concentrate on that stare back to us. I personally would have taken a small step back and included the hands more but it is so subjective and in no way changes the fact that this is a very powerful portrait. Really well done.
A beautifully controlled portrait that has a monastic feel to it because of the pose, the slight tilt of the head, the closed eyes and the light hitting the face. The tight crop works well as it allows us to concentrate on the person, the shafts of light are technically exposed not easy in keeping the detail especially in the white shirt. The golden hair frames the face and we concentrate our attention on the lips and chains around the neck. A great example of a controlled natural portrait. Very well done.
A simple yet beautifully engaging portrait of a young woman. The framing is excellent using the model to shield the sun casting this wonderful warm rim light against the hair which is very well controlled. The shadow details are well held and the pose is classic and makes good use of what to do with arms and hands in a portrait. I cant fault it. It's lovely and I can see this hanging in a frame in a home. Well done.
This moody soft black and white image was really close to my top 10. The intensity and relationship between the dancers is clear to see and the highlights on the dancers dress to the far left of the image is lovely. I would have tilted the camera a little to eliminate the silhouette in the bottom right corner but regardless and great capture. Well done.
A classic traditional portrait of a couple where the photographer has shown great skill using the frame of the door as a framing device which separates them apart. The poses are lovely, both holding traditional materials and the small elements of color pop against the neutral clothing and background. This is a lovely example of an environmental portrait. Well done.
Another that was so close to my top 10. The framing is very good and the quality of light on the main subject is lovely. The exposure is spot on which is not easy given the highlights in the white dress and blonde hair. The arms coming into shot and cropping is very good. My only issue is the point of focus could have been directed onto the brides face. A small detail that in no way gets in the way of what is a great capture. I'm sure the bride is delighted with this and the many other images I'm sure you took on this special day. Congrats to you both.
The high contrast, stunning warm colors and the gesture of the two visible hands add that extra factor to this image. The slightly above camera angle captures the angles really well and the stare and look of the young person directly to camera is haunting. The highlights are very well controlled in what are difficult lighting conditions, but this high contrast image offers reflection in a beautifully captured environmental portrait. Stunning.
This highly saturated portrait of youths on the street is dark and edgy. The light hitting the young mans face is perfectly cast within the red hoodie they wear where the person, back turned to camera perfectly dissects and disrupts the natural framing. The subtle out of focus background gives us a glimpse of the gritty urban setting in what could be a fashion shot for a style magazine. Well done.
This really stands out. Bold controlled directional light really focuses our attention on the main subject - The jacket and loyalty shown by the wearer. The sharpness is incredible and directs our gaze. The contrast levels work really well and the tight crop again focuses our attention on the slogan. I'm also interested in the apple they eat which gives a wonderfully surreal feel to this great capture. Well done.
A beautiful portrait full of emotion and complexities. The use of black and white means we focus across the entire frame nit distracted by colors. Our eye is taken to the powerful stare of the subject back to camera, It asks us to look back without flinching, The shallow depth of field works perfectly on the soft hands and flowers that partially obscure the face, we cant see if they are smiling or not but the emotion is there in the eyes in what is a powerful and thoughtful portrait.
You can sense the drama in this stunning portrait. It is full of emotion and the framing could not be bettered. Shooting directly into the sun, often a no no when it comes to photography has been well controlled by the photographer and the subtle skin tones on the face and arm are perfectly exposed which add drama and intensity to this image. The shallow depth of field allows us to concentrate on him whilst still seeing the entire picture behind them. A stunning capture. Well done.

Powerful contemporary portrait of a teenage girl that shows all the emotions and angst of what it is like to be young in this era. The piercing green/blue eyes really stand out against the warm skin-tones and deep red hair in this high contrast image that works really well with the light directly onto the face. The tight crop allows us to see in detail the expression whilst the shallow depth of field really highlights the facial emotions. Lovely.
An intriguing and well thought out image long before it was actually taken. The clever use of focus has delivered a portrait that really stands out in the competition. We get to see the relationship between the two men in conversation and the land in which they occupy. The exposure is perfectly controlled as is the saturation allowing for the vivid colors to be seen together without any one area dominating The pop of the red from the berries and the deeper blue sky really holds our attention in this unique portrait. Great capture and very well made.

Fun and I love the disconnect between the cheeky top they wear and the expression on the face. This postcard style image is elevated through great control of exposure and the quality of light on the face which is really lovely. The pose again suggests they don't want to be photographed but it's such a warm and loving image that I'm really drawn to it. Well done.
