Great entry. Super description. Great clarity.
When I thought of this contest I was thinking of what people would submit. When I saw the photo I knew it was top 10 right away. It is fascinating seeing the gears and set up of an old machine like this.
Thanks for entering the contest and congratulations on your finish.
Wow. Technology sure has changed. I spent time in the print industry and saw some old and new machines. The space needed for operations is probably the biggest change I saw. The adjustment wheels were a great feature always in use. Can you imagine the knowledge needed to operate one of these back then?
Great photo. Thanks for entering my contest and congratulations on your finish.
Great entry. I would like to see your original picture. The Sepia tone reflects the history at the time but distracted me a little. With that said I really enjoyed seeing your entry.
I had to look this up to see exactly what it was.
"Crystal and Cat-Whisker" refers to the crystal detector, a key component in early, unpowered crystal radios, using a mineral crystal (like galena) and a fine wire ("cat's whisker") to find a point-contact diode, allowing detection of radio signals without external power, forming the basis of early semiconductor devices.
Congratulations on your finish.
Great entry. There were a few similar entries but yours was well detailed and stood out to me. This is a very clear photo giving so much clarity to what technology was like in the mid twentieth century. Can you imagine setting at one of these machines and trying to remember what plug-ins to use for the person receiving the call? And of course, you always knew someone was listening to your conversation.
Thanks for entering the contest and congratulations on your finish.
The details of this photo are great. It shows clarity and perfect dimensions of the space needed to set up for operations. It looks so complicated and yet it can and was mastered by individuals. This piece of equipment was so necessary to ensure smooth operations and on time communications was received by those in the squadron.
Thanks for entering my contest and congratulations on your finish.
Very nice entry. I enjoyed reading the comments on this. I would love to hear what this sounds like. Great find. It is in great condition. I love the fact you can still see the RCA badge with the dog. Just imagine what today's teenagers would think of this.
Thanks for entering my contest and congratulations on your finish.
Very well preserved entry. Beautiful details. This is a unique find. Imagine yourself sitting in front of this for hours at a time. People would rely on you for ensuring they received calls of necessity from others far away. It was a lifeline especially in the countryside.
Thanks for entering my contest. Congratulations on your finish.

Very interesting entry. I can almost hear the sirens blaring just seeing this photo. When we think of technology we sometimes just think of cell phones and computer changes. Yet, the early equipment used during this time was so necessary for the safety and essential to everyone who depended on the system.
This was unusual but right on point for the contest. Thanks for entering and congratulations on your finish.

In this contest I would like to see your photos of old technology. Examples would be electronics, gaming systems, pinball machines, calculators, typewriters, telephone systems, or any other items of technology that have since been "improved" over the years. Photos can be in colour or black and white. I hope you enjoy the contest.
Very interesting take on technology. This is a great photo showing the individual skills needed that has now been taken over by machinery in most parts of the world. The gentleman in this photo is so focused on his trade and wants to ensure everything comes out just right. What a skill set to have .
Great entry. Thanks for entering the contest and congratulations on your finish.
These two pieces of equipment are in excellent condition. Just think of how they were powered and what they were used for back then. Can you imagine todays highway crews using these?
The clarity of your photo is outstanding. I zoomed in hoping to see more details of the engine components and gauges being used but you would have had to shoot close up images taking away from the shot so I understand .
Thank you for entering this shot in my contest and congratulations on your top 10 finish.

Talk about changing technology. What a find. Great photo. I believe this would have to be located in a basement somewhere. It looks like it is on a ship or vessel of some sort. Can you imagine the training needed to operate this or make necessary repairs to the panels?
Thanks for entering the photo in my contest.
Fantastic find. Great entry. If you zoom in you can see all the levers, sprockets and wiring. The front brake system reminds me of what we had on bikes in my childhood. I wonder what type of fuel it used? It looks like the tank is made of wood like a barrel we see today.
Thanks for sharing this and entering my contest.
Great entry. Variety of old phones. I have only used 4 of these in my lifetime. Just by looking at these you can see the changes made in technology over the years. Imagine starting with the old switchboards and placing all telephones in order up to and including the wide variety of cell phones in use today. Talk about changing how and when we use telephone and the communications we now have versus back then.
Thanks for entering this in my contest. I appreciate it.
Interesting find and capture. I appreciate the description a lot. Without it, I wouldn't have known what I was looking at. Can you imagine what led to this innovation? It is quite an accomplishment to envision the crank system to save time and energy for this landmark building.
Thanks for your entry. I really appreciate you thinking outside the box on this photo.
Great capture and entry. Quite a bit different from what you see in this new age of slot and gaming machines. I would love having one of these in my house just to use as a piggy bank.
This machine is still in immaculate condition. I love the fine details that are visible.
Thanks for your entry in my contest.
