What really attracts me to this image is the gorgeously rich tones and colours of the variety of onions. Lighting looks naturally soft so avoiding any harsh highlights or deep shadows. Instead we are treated to a great capture of a box of fresh onions, ready to add flavour to any dish. Nothing flashy or gimmicky, just a simple, natural but effective image. Congratulations on your third place finish.
Images with the subject filling the frame can be very impactful, and that is the case here. Lighting is great as the form and textures of the garlic bulbs are well revealed. I especially like how ths individual cloves are visible as they softly bulge underneath the papery outer skin. Colouring looks nice and natural and aids the success of the shot. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
There is somthing very appealing in this stilllife composition of three white onions. I love the simplicity and the uncluttered setup, which ensures full focus is on the onions. Lots of interesting little details to hold the attention, from the subtle linear patterns on the onion skins to the tops pinched by the elastic bands. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A relatively simple setup to this fabulous still-life image, which helps convey a rather rustic vintage feel to the composition. I see from your image description that you used the technique of light painting to illuminate the subjects, and this has been very successful in creating a gentle and well-rounded lighting, revealing lots of details throughout the scene. The backdrop works well too, and creates a much stronger atmosphere than a plain featureless black would have likely offered. Congratulations on your second place finish.
The lighting on this beautiful stilll-life image is gorgeous, and really makes the most of the subject. The contrasting colours of the deep purely red and vivid green really make the image a standout shot. The use of light and shade reveals a wealth of textural detail, from the smooth shiny metal of the scales to the natural folds of the leaves. Composition works well, with good height to the arrangement of objects. Congratulations on your winning image.

This contest is for your photos of vegetables in the onion family, which includes garlic, leeks, chives, shallots and any type of onion. These vegetables can be shown in any context, for example being sold in the market, being prepared, or in a stilll-life composition. If your image shows dishes with cooked onion etc., these vegetables must be clearly identifiable from looking at the photo. The vegetables can be shown growing, but the actual product must be visible, not just flowers or leaves of the plant. Images can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
