Order and organisation

April 2026

I spend a lot of time sailing in and out of big international ports and am always mesmerised by the amazing sense of order and organisation that goes into moving goods around the world. You've captured that vibe skilfully with a confident and accomplished composition.

There is something deeply hypnotic about this image. The waves simply suggest the rhythms of the world. The lone surfer adds a human interest and a perfect focal point. Perhaps in the natural order of things, we could all benefit from catching a good wave.

Love this study of (mainly) green pizza boxes. The order and rhythm being slightly disrupted by a few pale blue boxes and some slight misalignment adds to the composition. Lovely attention to detail, especially with the vertical and horizontal lines, makes this image shine.

Clever use of a drone to fulfil this brief. Looking at the world from this aerial perspective is a great way to explore the order of our world. This can be seen perfectly in this striking image. Like a lot of the images in this category, it's the small disruptions to the 'order' that add to the image.

Love the use of repetition here as a way of exploring the theme and creating a pleasing, harmonious and balanced image. The longer focal length has nicely compressed the perspective to create a strong and dynamic image. Well seen. Good work.

What a great idea. I love the way that you've ordered the plums, cut them in half and highlighted the differences and similarities. The subtle variations in colour, shape and tone are lovely to see. Good work. The beginning of a series maybe?

The minimalist slow shutter speed rendering of the water and the sky adds a wonderful minimalist vibe that suits the subject and helps isolate the dwellings, giving them an eerie sense of order and isolation. The mono treatment is super and adds to the story.

Excellent capture. The tight, structured composition has been carefully considered. I know from my own experience that making an image like this with careful attention to vertical and horizontal lines is not as easy as it looks. I love the colour harmonies that the different-hued containers bring to the composition.

The relationship between the figure with the umbrella and the wonderful architectural shapes is delightful. The shapes and tones reverberating around the frame are lovely and keenly seen. The decisive moment with the two figures is also nicely timed. And the lovely tonal rendering is the icing on the cake.

The symmetry and order in this super shot have been beautifully composed and are pitch-perfect. Perhaps more importantly, the irregularity of the washing and television aerials disrupts the order, adding a wonderful human touch and a lovely sense of rhythm.

Wow, what a wonderfully seen and artfully captured image. The order of the natural world is simply beautiful, and recognising the visceral connection we make with these spiral shapes speaks to something profoundly universal. The mono treatment is expertly controlled. Kudos.

I love the way the road draws the viewer into the image and toward the distant horizon. However, I also love the orderly way the grasses, especially those on the right, are seemingly standing to attention like a cheering crowd. Excellent work.

We like to order and organise the things that surround us, bringing some control over a world that naturally tends to disorder when left unattended. Some animals do the same, and nature itself can be seen as an organising system. Images submitted to this contest can show examples of any of these, regardless of what has been ordered and organised, or who or what has done it.

A well-seen scene that goes to prove that interesting images can be made anywhere, even with a pile of old, worn-out tyres. Of course, it's the well-ordered web of rubber that creates a nicely ordered pattern that's occasionally disrupted with small irregularities.

This beautiful architectural study is perfectly harmonised with a sense of cool, calm order. The lone figure adds a mysterious focal point in the complex scene. The depth, layers, lines all work. The rendering of the black-and-white tones has been executed with skill and artistry. Kudos

This clever image works on so many levels. I love that it feels like a tree with the yellow paint over the crack in the paving acting as a trunk. A profound image that speaks to humanity's relationship with nature and perhaps a return to the natural order of things. I don't know, but the ambiguity it suggests is a delight.
