Out of place

We see a little canal, the houses in the background, a little boat to the left, and then... this submarine or something that looks like a submarine leaving us surprised – no one would expect to see a submarine in a calm scene like this one! The composition of the photograph is amazing and I love that the artist chose to make it black and white –because of this we are not distracted by colour, and only look at the content of the photo.

When you look at this picture either from a distance or as a thumbnail it looks just great, but when you come in closer or just zoom it in you realise that technically, the photo is not quite perfect. It's not sharp enough, especially the tree in the foreground that is supposed to be the centre of attention here, and that's the only thing that this picture lacks. Other than that it is great and makes the tree look definitely out of place!

This picture caught my attention right away. It made me think about what was going on here. Obviously this here is two guys playing ping pong – but where is it? It definitely looks like they are playing right outside of a building. But then – what is this ping pong table doing there? Is it some kind of start up here in this building or what? Anyway –photos that make you think and wonder are almost always among the great ones.

The photo by itself is kind of interesting. I wouldn't really say though that anything is out of place, though. Yes, we can see those chalk painted tables, a glass, a bottle, a lady, a cat etcetera on the wall of a building. Then we can also see the guy pretending to reach out for a glass of water or whatever might be in it – and? Yes, it seems a bit odd but I don't see how it is 'Out of place'.

First of all when I look at this photo I instantly want to go there and check out the place myself. It looks like it is a fairy tale of some kind being shattered by a factory right in the middle of it. It says a lot about the way people treat nature and about how much they care – or probably don't care – about it. At the same time it speaks to me in terms of the theme of the contest, 'Out of place', because this factory is something that definitely doesn't belong here.

Again – a great example of an amazing picture here. The texture of the photo is messy which is great in this instance. And there are two really colourful cars standing right in the centre of the frame – it makes you look at them right away and wonder – what are they doing here? Where is this place? What country? Is it sand? Are these rock formations? What is this place? The only reason I didn't give this picture the first place is the guy on the right that is pretty distracting in the photo.

Again – one of those photos that make me think and constantly wonder about what is happening here. It makes me smile when I look at this naked gentleman in the chair in the middle of a crowded street smoking on a tiny bump of a cigarette. In a way it reminded me of the cover of the Doors' album "People are Strange". It is probably some kind of a city fair going on here, at least that is my assumption, but again, why is he naked?

That is a great image in many ways. First of all the composition is almost perfect. You can see endless rows of these little houses here on the beach and then there is this red and white ball sitting by one of them – it instantly catches your attention. You can start thinking that it is definitely out of place – just what the theme of the contest was. So the artist was spot on here. Congratulations on the beautiful picture!

Love the mood of this picture. A heavy blizzard is going on here, maybe even a little fog. We see this lonely tree and then the forest in the background. It makes me feel very cold and very lonely too, and that is what is important – a beautiful photo has to make you feel what the artist was feeling when he or she was taking this certain shot. Plus there is this tiny house under the tree – is it a hunting cabin or what? Great!

The subject in this photo – and I am talking about the red lantern in the foreground – for some reason looks a bit photoshopped to me, although I hope it wasn't. The picture is within the theme of the contest – which is of course a good thing – but it looks a bit too staged for me. I can see the artist approaching this beach, setting up the lantern there, lighting it up and then patiently waiting for the waters to calm down.
