A simple subject, you have made the most of the harsh sunlight to show the strong shadows which give the scene an added dimension. Conversion to black and white has been done well, with a full range of tones, and suits the subject well, to remove any distraction from the lines and shadows which colour may bring. A good low viewpoint adds to the dynamic of the image. Well done on your top ten finish.
I have seen this image several times before, and I always find it intriguing, as I can never quite be sure what I am looking at. For me, that is one of the appealing things about the image. However it has been produced, it has been very expertly executed to create an image with crisp lines, strong composition and super contrast between the light and dark, and the effect of a warm glow of orange light from the opening above. A fascinating, but fabulous image, well done.
The strong contrast between the lightest areas of the tracks and the darker surroundings pull the eye through to the back of the image, and add quite an abstract feel to this city street scene. The long focal length has compressed the perspective wonderfully, which is one of the keys strengths of the shot. I also like the inclusion of the figures in the distance which bring some life to the scene. The strong contrasts within the black and white conversion work really well. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
This is a great pattern image, showing a simple landscape subject with an added abstract feel. The tree is an essential element to the success of the shot, as without it, it would have been a little too bland and lacking a focal point. With the tree included however, it is a creative image. The conversion to black and white has been done especially well, with contrast between the lightest and darkest areas showing the patterns and lines at their best. Well done on your top ten finish.
I really like this image, especially the contrast between the straight lines on the road, and the gentle reverse s-shape formed by the line of birds. The perspective of the shot puzzles me however, as the view of the road surface indicates it was shot from above, but the birds look to be shot from side-on - maybe a composite image, or perhaps a trick of the eye? Whatever, it does not really matter, as it makes for an attractive and intriguing image. Congratulations on your second place finish.
This image was a late addition to my top ten, but one I kept coming back to. Exposure of the image is great, with the level of light just right to show details of the building and surroundings, but at the same time capturing a sense of the night. Focus looks spot on, with everything sharp across the scene. The black and white conversion has been very well handled too. A lovely low light image, well done on your top ten placing.
A great image of lines and patterns, formed by the decorative gates silhouetted against the light. Simple, effective, and not an easy shot to achieve successfully, as exposure time required to capture the desired effect can sometimes be a bit experimental. Good details retained on the cobbles, and the nice warmth to the light gives the image a lovely feel. Well done.

This contest is for images which show parallel lines. Parallel lines are positioned side by side, having the same distance continuously between them - parallel lines never meet, but do not necessarily need to be straight. The subject of the photograph can be anything you choose, from architecture through to nature. You could choose to show the lines crossing the frame, dividing the image into bold linear patterns and shapes. Alternatively you could use parallel lines as a strong compositional tool, adding depth to your image through diminishing perspective, such as with train tracks heading into the distance. The parallel lines in your image must be an obvious feature and the focal point of your shot. I look forward to your entries.
When faced with fleeting beams of sunlight, this type of image is often very difficult to capture successfully, as what the eye sees can be difficult to reproduce in the photograph and results can be disappointing. You should be very pleased with what you have achieved here, as the beautiful light is just strong enough to highlight the form of the steps and also shows us a little of the surrounding architecture to give context. A strong black and white conversion works well with the subject. Great image.
