It's unusual to see a landscape scene without a sky, but it often adds much more impact to a scene and draws the eye in. It's also a great way to avoid capturing washed out or bright skies when you don't have an ND grad to hand. This shot works well for a number of reasons. The golden bands of light that fall across the top of the hills give the scene a warm glowing feeling. The scene is well exposed with a range of shadow and highlight detail. The square crop works well too. I like how the road meanders through the middle of the frame, starting from the bottom left corner and ending in the top left. The small details such as the vehicle on the track with the trailing dust, the red tractor and the flock of sheep help tell a story, which is what makes this image so intriguing and makes it so successful!
