I really like your composition and capture of the contrasting colours, which make this shot stand out for me. You have retained a gentle softness in the image, but still show lovely detail in the door, shutters, and that fabulous wall. If I were being picky, I would suggest a slight anticlockwise adjustment, as the verticals on the door and window look a little tilted over to the right, but that is only a small thing, and does not really detract from this lovely image.

The fabulous tones and colours drew me to this image. The small (but essential) bright yellow flecks contrast wonderfully with the blues and purply blacks, and for me make this image stand out as the winner. The composition works well, with the positioning of the horizontal and vertical bars giving additional strength to the shot. If anybody had seen you taking a close up photograph of a rusty old skip, they would most likely have considered you a little crazy, but your dedication has paid off, to give you a well deserved winning image. Congratulations!

The composition and colouring make this my second placed image. You have carefully positioned yourself when composing the shot to almost divide the picture into equal thirds, each a little different, but blending together wonderfully. I have seen several images of the abandoned boats at Salen, but this one works perfectly in this contest, as you have filled the frame to show off the peeling, rusting textures of these old hulls. I especially like how you have not been tempted to over saturate the lovely cool blues and warm oranges. A great image, well done on your second placing.

This is one of the images where I feel tempted to reach in and pull off those last shreds of paint! The contrast of blues and rusty orange work really well. It is your capture of the light and shadows which made this image stand out for me, nice and bright to show the colours, with just enough shadow to show the form of the structure and the lifted curls of remaining paint. Great image, well done on your top three placing.

The more I look at this image, the more I like it, although I would not be surprised if it is overlooked by many on the crowd vote. The space you have so expertly captured is vast, and there is plenty for the eyes to explore - the face, the flaky textures, the steps and doorways..... Exposure is spot on, we get a sense of gloom and decay, but can still see into the dark corners . Great image which I enjoyed viewing.

A late addition to my top ten, but the more I looked, the more I liked it. You have shown lovely detail in the crumbling plaster and paintwork, which shows how splendid this building must have been in times past. The central positioning of the figure works well for me, and her blue trousers contrast nicely with the orange paint. With her heavy bag she looks as tired as the building, as she makes her way home. I would perhaps have like to see a bit more up the side street, but not knowing what was there at the time you took the shot, it may not have worked if included. Great shot, well done.

Photographers are often attracted to capture the decayed and imperfect and find beauty in things which are weathered and worn. In this contest I want to see your best images showing peeling paintwork. The peeling paint may be on any object or structure you like - you may opt to show a wider scene containing an object or building with peeling paint, or you may decide to move in close to focus on a more abstract detail of a small area of peeling paintwork. Whatever you choose, the peeling paint must be clearly visible in the photograph and be a key focus of your image. Use your skills with lighting, composition and focusing to show the textures and tones or colours of peeling paint.
